I just put in my jl xr components. it sounds great, but the problem is when there aren't any highs, the tweeters make this kind of hissing noise. So like at the beginning/end of a track when there's no music playing, you can hear it. It's not really that loud, but it's noticeable. Any idea why that's happening?

Thanks

Alt whine would be my guess. Turn your music all the way down and press on the gas, if the whine increases in volume then that's it. Most of the time you can solve that problem by making sure your amp and head unit are both grounded very well. If that doesn't work try some shielded twisted/shielded rcas. If that doesn't work do a search because there are a ton of things it could be.

well if i turn my volume down to 0 i get nothing at all. If I put it at 1, then the noise comes back. And I just listened to it a bit more today, and it's not really so much of a hissing as a high humming. The noise stays constant though, even when I hit the gas.

The noise isn't all that terrible. I mean, I don't want it, but it's not like it's really loud. I only hear it when there's no music playing (like first/last second of start/end of tracks). Could it be possible that this is normal and I'm just picking out the static? (I do tend to have a sensitive ear)

Thanks

If it makes a louder hissing noise when you give it gas, it alt noise. if it hisses all the time until you turn it down it may be crappy wiring to the crossover. if not that, bad sq on the BURNT cd, or bad sq on the fm/am station. if hissing on a purchased cd, bad wiring. who knows, mabey JL audio finally made a defective product. highly doubtful though. sorry i cant be of any good help. also mind everything Shugarra said. the things i said are just the most probable causes

how bout that.... stupid burnt CD. I tried a couple different mp3 CDs but never a 'real' CD... I mean, who uses real CDs any more. So is there are particular cause for the noise on the burnt CD? like is it the CD or the CD burner drive?

thanks
