I recently installed JL xr components in my car (60W RMS) with a 2 channel PG amp (about 45-50W RMS per channel), and I left the rear speakers in hooked up to the head unit. However, after installing and playing them it seems that more sound is coming from the rear, especially at low levels. My first line of thinking is that the rear speakers were accidently hooked to the amp, but does anyone have any other ideas on what I could have done wrong or other problems it might be? THanks

First thing-

You need to establish weather you have hooked the rear speakers to the amp or not.

Then come back and report.

Well I disconnected the RCA cables going to the amp, and only the rear speakers were audible, so the problem is not that the rears were accidently wired to the amp. I was hoping that it was the problem, because this would be relatively easy to fix. Now I am at a complete loss, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Also, when I play with the fader on the HU and fade all the way to the front, I hear absolutely no sound whatsoever.

is that with the RCA back into the amp? if so take a DMM and check the voltage at the rcas

Well when the RCAs are plugged in, I *can* hear the front components, just very quietly as compared to the rears. However thats when the fader is at 0. Moving it any forward just decreases overall volume in the car. Yes the amp's power light is on, the amp must be working at least somewhat because the front components do produce some sort of sound.

i was thinking for a while and decided you should check the amp's output using the gain setting tutorial .
