CD Player resets itself

I just got my car back from the mechanic's finally, and I put in the CD Player with an equalizer (see my other posts). I did the wiring as everyone has suggested I did, and it worked fine. Or so I thought it did for a bit.

Every now and then (happened three times yesterday throughout the day), the CD Player seems like it looses power, or has a power-skip (as I call it), for a split second, enough to reset the CD Player so I loose all my presets, settings, and time. It then comes right back on and plays the first track on my MP3 CD. I redid the power and ground connection this morning, and it happened once or twice today already since. I'm thinking it could be the power, since it is connected with the equalizer in a 3-wire connection (car battery(ignition), CD Player and Equalizer). I would like to try a power-splitter or a relay, whatever they are called. I would like to know of any suggestions any of you have.

If anyone had a similar incident, please let me know what you did to solve the problem. Thanks in advance!

It really sounds that you have a connection that is not quite tight enough.

You may need to check all connections in your wiring.

The problem may also be internal to the head unit.

Exactly which connections have you redone?Have you checked all connections to include the harness and at your battery?
both grounds are grounded to the chassis (since my car doesn't have a ground wire), and the screw is on there tight enough for connection. I redid the power wires this morning, making sure they were all connected together when I twisted the three together. I double checked the wire harness as well. I don't think this problem would be anything else besides either the power or the ground wires. I redid the terminal round ends on the ground wire this morning as well when I redid my connections... I just put in my new speakers and I'm gonna take it for a quick drive now, and I have a class at 3. After my class, I'll take it for a 30 minute drive or so, to see if it happens again.

I also noticed today before putting the new speakers in that while the car was on and the cd was playing, I went to turn the heat on high and the cd player resetted itself again. sounds like a power problem to me...

Could very well be. If that is the case you may want to take it to a professional to prevent it from becoming a serious problem.
I just got back from my quick ride, doesn't seem to happen anymore, even with the heater and both the windshield and rear window wipers running at the same time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the ride to and from school, and if it happens again, I'll take it somewhere this weekend. I may want to try just disconnecting the equalizer if it happens again, just to see if it happens after that... if it doesn't, could I get a splitter or something to keep it from happening anymore?

Yesterday the head unit started to go mute, even with the volume up to the max. I would have to power off the unit, and power it back on to hear the music again. Sounds to me the head unit is defective. I'll take it out and check the fuse for the unit, as that could be a problem as well, but I doubt it. I will also try disconnecting the equalizer today when I get time to, but I also doubt it's the equalizer. I may need to make a call to the manufacturers to have this replaced under the warranty. Thanks you for your help!

Its definitely not the fuse. Where a fuse is concerned either there is power or there isn't. Also you should definitely remove the EQ and then test the head unit to see if it works without it. If it does end up being the CD player, you may want to try a more reliable brand like Pioneer, alpine or panasonic. They are more expensive, but usually tend to have a lot less problems.

more likely ESPECIALLY with the volume at max. It sounds like your HU is going into protection. If you are turning it all the way up and it's still not loud enough, get an amp for your speakers dude. Abuse isn't gonna be covered by warranty anyway.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I agree that you should take it to a shop and pay to have it professionally installed.

when I said going mute, I meant it stays mute... I wouldn't turn it up all the way... only to 50 or 60 to listen to music, and all of the sudden the music just stops coming through the speakers, but I would see the timer for a track still going and the visual beat thing on the cd player still having action behind it. It's then when I would try to turn it up to 100 (max) only to find I can't get music to come through at all unless I would turn the unit off and back on. I can say with almost 100% no-doubt confidence that it is the head unit. Am on campus now but will be going home shortly to take the equalizer out, but right now it seems that it would be a waste of effort to do that since I can pretty much say it would have to be the unit itself. Will call manufacturer next week for warranty service. Thanks!
