Completly new to car audio...just bought setup..quick question

ok wutsup....i recently bought a package from circuit city....it came with two 12'' kicker compVR subs, a zx400.1 amp (rated at 477), and some mtx sealed box......basically when i crank it up to about 30ish, the bass and music sound good, but when i want a little more and turn it up more, the bass just dies out and it sounds pretty bad on the subs (like a farting sort of noise haha ;] )...is this what is called clipping? could it be solved with just a bigger amp? or is it a problem with the wiring? the amp it goes into "protection mode" when the volume is very high, thus the "farting" noise out of the subs...

btw the installer told me he wired it at 2 ohms...

hopefully someone can help me? im new to this sort of stuff and learning

your subs are severely under powered, you need the kicker 750.1

head unit- pioneer DEH-P2900MP

ok so the subs are underpowered, but what is this that is happening? when the volume goes way up, the bass immediatly shuts off and the amp goes into "protection mode"....my gain is at about 65% with bass boost off completly

maybe he installed it wrong and it cant supply that amount of power to what ever ohm load you are pushing. Faulty install? i would check and see how your subs are wired. if you can give a picture or diagram of your subwoofer wiring then it could possibly save you from blowing that amp. fyi

Assuming your Subs can handle more power than your amp can deliever most installers will set the gain on the amp for max power with a head unit setting of about 75% max volume. Thats because many HUs will clip above that. So heres the problem. Your system can be set up perfectly and your max volume should be at 30 but you want a little more. Yea we all do.

Until you accept that you will be having problems. These guys have told me many times. You need to know your system and know when its stressing.
