i think it would be tough to get that kind of output and SQ from a "less expensive" sub, not saying it cant be done but the Max is well worth it, I had 4 of them at one point and loved them

It's hard to to give the phoneix gold consideration looking at it's price point. Plus it has the option of single and dual 4 ohm VCs.

Since when does price, and having an option of single or dual voice coil determine how good a sub will be? Simply put, try it out..

That's not what I meant. But when I rank a sub, those options go into consideration on a good sub. As for how it sounds, you are correct in none of those matter.
