Comments on System Design

Okay, so I've been out of the game for a while, but I'm trying (see my thread in the newbie zone if you care to see what I've done in the past). I'm looking to design a system for a 2007 Subaru WRX STI.

Here are my thoughts on the initial component selection:

Pioneer AVIC-D3 (with the second gen bluetooth and iPod cable, once I verify it can play Apple Lossless files)

Zapco DC500.1 (subs) and Zapco DC1000.4 (mids/tweets)

Front Stage Rainbow Germaniums or Boston Pro60s

Subs maybe 4x ED 9k.v2s or maybe TC-1000s

I'm all about SQ, I could care less about max dB. I'm using the digital amps from Zapco because they aren't much more than their standard lineup and the features seem to rock. I have an RTA, so tuning will be easy.

I also plan to do a decent deadening of the doors/interior (about 25 lbs of material), there is a good thread on iWSTI about that alone.

I'm looking for comments on the component selection. The mids/tweets would go in the door and the subwoofer would be mounted under the rear deck firing into the cabin area.

Thanks in advance for any comments/tips/advice!

wellll.. sounds like you got it covered really. Prolly spent more on that system that I did for my whole truck and system in it haha. Hey but sounds like you know what you are doing and should sound pretty darn good.

Sounds like an awesome system, just wish I had the money to do some of that! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

What would be some good subwoofers that aren't crazy over-the-top? Also, I wouldn't mind trimming the amplifier budget a bit, I'd like to keep power under $1000 if possible. The total cost right now is a bit higher than I wanted, so some ideas on how to economize would certainly be welcome.

Well, I've tweaked my plans a bit since the original post after doing some additional research and talking to a few people.

The head unit (Pioneer AVIC-D3) is fine, people getting it say that it is great so we're all set there.

I'm thinking a single Zapco DC650.6 6-channel amp (with the subwoofer channels bridged mono) can power the entire system active.

The front stage is still likely the Rainbow components (6.5") ran active without the crossover.

For bass output, I'm thinking a single 12" IDMAX should be able to handle it quite well in a sealed 1.3 cu ft box.

So the current plans include:

Pioneer AVIC-D3

Rainbow Germanium Components

Zapco DC650.6 Amplifier

IDMAX 12" Subwoofer

Any comments on that setup?
