Clipping?

so much misinformation in here...

first off, youtube files and convertors and such are crap. Those types of files clip very easily. Second, to the studio guy; your rationale is pretty flawed for our world. eCrack has summed up clipping in our world much more accurately then you have. Lastly, if it wasnt clear; HUs can clip and typically do around roughly 80-90% of their max volume, amps can clip when inline voltage is greater then what amp is set at (i.e inline voltage from deck is 3.5v and gain on amp is matched at 1.5v input level) and files can be dirty as well. There are certain artists who's songs are clipped through out

dude I just old yo a ss mastering is done at -.3/-.4 so they make sure the songs do not clip u just on e crack nuts if u actually read what I said u will see who went more in depth

1 example off the top of my head that i KNOW for sure is clipped is Draped Up by Bun B..run it thru Audacity and see what you get. Also, compression effects files as well. There is no way that some compressed mp3 is as clean as an original recording

but I must not know what im doing, im just putting 5k to 2 600w subs daily, but must know nothing about clipping..

and I still think you are missing the conversation...i dont care how clean you master your song, some ******* with no knowledge can still clip the shitt out of it by having his gain 100%, bass +10, sub level +10 etc

and running a file through a processor that adds gain will clip a file that's only -.3 under absolute zero

alot of "clean" tones are done at either the -3 or -6db reference level for this very reason

i can hear mine clipping.. it still hurts my ears when i dont clip tho. im lucky that i have an ear for it and now songs to test on lol..

if its a mids amp use 1khz and turn it up til it distorts/clips..

sub amp 50hz.. best way to prevent is set the amps with the dmm technique
