My daughter's Eclipse makes a strange sound like something is hitting the timing belt cover when she starts it up in the morning but after about ten minutes it goes away, I thought that it might be the valves but the car runs fine. What could be causing this to happen? She's in Alaska so I can't just run out and take a look at it.

what year eclipse, which engine? lifter tick is very common in several years (actually lash adjusters) which is still valvetrain noise. its possible that foreign debris has gotten itself under the timing cover, or loose cam gears or other accessory pulley. id pull the timing cover for a quick visual but put your ear near the valve cover and see if its lifter tick, that would be my bet.

edit: just read that sorry, scratch visual inspection
