Clean before deaden?

What should I clean my truck with before I sound deaden it? I know its no citris cleaner so I thought about windex?

Im to the bare metal. Also I have that factory tar stuff on certain spots of my truck I guess for heat control, should I remove that or not?

Use acetone, or paint thinner. You can leave the factory stuff there, just make sure you clean everything so the deadener adheres well to it.

If the factory stuff is stuck on well, don't remove it. The more mass the better. If it's comming off, or looks like it soon will then take it off.

Acetone or rubbing alcohol.

There's really no reason to use paint thinner or harsh chemicals. A good degreaser such as Simple Greene or Bleche White is 100% safe on paint and won't leave any greasy residue. And it's dirt cheap. Make sure to rub it in with a cloth, and then wipe off with a clean towel. Don't dilute it.

You can remove tar with any decent tar remover.
