Clean before deaden?

There's really no reason to use paint thinner or harsh chemicals. A good degreaser such as Simple Greene or Bleche White is 100% safe on paint and won't leave any greasy residue. And it's dirt cheap. Make sure to rub it in with a cloth, and then wipe off with a clean towel. Don't dilute it.

You can remove tar with any decent tar remover.

x2 you don't need bare metal for it to stick.

Some people on here don't even clean before deadening.
