Civic Alternators ****.

Thats why Civics and these other foreign cars are so cheap. They only put in whats needed and whats get you from point a to point b. Put whats needed equals a cheaper selling price.

Well thats pretty obvious. I mean we are talking about a 92 civic. Probably the most reliable, affordable 1992 car made.... At least top 3... Especially for the price. Its cheap to drive, and cheap to maintain.

No need to put a 100amp alternator in these cars.

How does your battery not die at a red light?
I put a smaller pulley on the alt and larger pulley on the crank, so I get more than 4 to 1 ratio on the alt and full 14.4v @ idle....the lowest drop I get at idle is 13.5 that i have metered:D

ive got a stock alt on my acura, but i allso did a Stinger SPV35 under the hood with the BIG3, then ran 8ga from front batt to my 2 ch for mids and high's, and 1 run of 1/0 to the rear batt SPV70,

i have NOOO dimming what so ever... but i havea pretty big voltage drop every once in a while dpending on what song im listining to...

only thing that eliminated dimming for me with my civic was a battery in the back (HC1800 to be specific). The big 3 helped, so did my yellowtop, but you need that extra battery so your electrical system can recover. A bigger alt is what you really need and they aren't easy to replace, but I've blown 2 alts on my civic already because they just cant handle being pushed hard for long over the years

So,

If I am getting dimming with 1/0 all over, and with a HC1400 underneath my hood, could these mean possibly that my alternator is going bad?

I mean sometimes My car wont crank over, but I dont know if that is an alternator problem, more so than an ignition problem like the coil, ignitor etc....

if you guys are not getting dimming with 2000k and shyt....Im thinking maybe its my alternator?

BTW it is a 92, but has 89k original miles on the motor/alternator. Everything is stock to my knowledge. Im not thinking its the alternator because its only 90k old??

is the hc1400 new? if not replace it, and get a new alt

I bought it used...and it sits fine... and seems to work fine. $$ is not the problem in getting a new alt, because I can get a higher amperage alt for about $150 or so, but its the hassle of installing that shyt. The first one I did on one of my previous 92 civics took me like 6 hours to install. Mainly because I had never done it before...This one would probably only take me 2 hrs or so.

Just want to see if I can figure this problem out.

And to add to this ?, can a bad alternator cause your car to be sluggish/hesitant/jumpy when accelerating?

then have the alt tested in the car to see what peak output is

You know I do still have my other 1992 green civic which has a 160amp alternator in it. I barely ever drive this car because I have my 92 white civic that is MUCH cleaner... the body is all in good condition and my green one is all fuvked up from deer hitting it.

My green civic has 209k miles original motor, with a new alternator 160 amps with about 15k on it. my white civic 92 with 89k original miles has the stock alternator(I believe)...

My green one runs stronger when I accelerate, my white one runs a little slower.

low voltage causes all kinds of problems on computerized cars:fyi:

Really? With my white civic I do have a voltmater that plugs into my cigarette lighter.... sometimes it gets really low like 12.5 and shyt when I dont even have the stereo playing. Right when I start the car its about 14.2 etc.... usually its sitting around 13.5ishwhen the stereo is playing at regular volumes.

Maybe my alternator in the newer white civic just really needs to be replaced. If I could get the starting problem fixed I would be really freakin happy. The starting problem doesnt happen frequently, its maybe once every 20 times or so. In which case when that happens, I just go under the hood, unplug the spark plug wires, replug them(takes 10 seconds) and then it usually starts up fine.

if the alt from the green civ fits in the white one, swap'm out

The alt from the green one will fit in the white one, they are both 92 civics and I barely ever drive the white one. However if I was to take out the white alternator, and replace it with the higher amperage one...and it fixed everything I would want to put a different alternator into the green one that works.
