i just bought 4 12" sony xplod 1500 watt speakers. i now need to figure what type of amp i need to get maximum power from the speakers. i know very little about amps, and out of all of the amps i have looked at- the most wattage i have seen in 4x300 rms at 4 ohms, is this enough power. also, why are the off brands sooo much cheaper for higher power amps? do they not work properly? is a 4 channel amp the only solution? if anyone has any suggestions on what type/brand/watt/etc... amp i need i would really appreciate it. also, is audiobahn a repectable brand? thank you

It depends on what you are referring to as on 'off-brand.' Typically brands such as Pyle, Legacy, Pyramid and the like aren't a good investment even at their bargain-basement prices. On the other hand, units built by Profile, US acoustics, a few of the offerings by Lanzar, and so on while possibly not giving you rated output tend to be reliable units for the cost conscious.

Not at all. You can also go with a 2 channel unit and run two subs off of each channel and you can also get a single channel monoblock unit to drive all four subs. Which kind of amp you need will depend on what specific Voice Coil/Ohm rating configuration your four subs are.

Knowing exactly which model of subs you've gotten for yourself so that we might know how the coils are configured would be a great help before anyone could offer you a really educated suggestion. I've never used any Audiobahn gear myself but it doesn't seem to be particularly popular to the regular posters on this forum. here is some more info on the subs

5-Sided Polypropylene Cone = Lower Distortion and Louder, Deeper Bass

Rubber Surround with "stroke stabilizer"

4-Layer Edge Wound 4-Ohm Voice Coil

get somthing like a hifonics 750d, or bx1000d. will suit your needs.

to be quite honest tho - those speakers are in the 'bargain bin' along with those amps you were talking about.

i would never ever buy one of those, unless i was going to plug it into a wall socket to see some flames.
