Choose My EQ Settings For Me!

Alright guys so for a while Ive been trying to tune my HU for the best settings. Im comparing my setup to my buddys in a MAzda3 with a stock headunit and 50W RMS to 4 channels, a total of 4 Infinity Kappas all around. His highs are much clearer with zero distortion. I would like better mids and highs as I have a T-Top car and on the freeway its hard to hear.

My setup is:

Pioneer Avic D3

Alpine MRP-M600

Alpine MRP-F550

Alpine SPR-17S 6.5 Comps

Alpine SWS-1042 Subs

Sound deadened doors, firewall, floor, roof.

Front stage, on the amp:

3/4 Gain

X-over @ 80hz

Full pass

Front stage on HU:

HPF @ 125hz

Highs:

Frequency: 10khz

Q: Wide2

Mid:

Frequency: 1khz

Q: Wide2

Lows:

Frequency: 80hz

Q: Wide2

The curve on the EQ looks pretty flat overall. Can someone explain what the Q settings are and what I should put them at for optimal clarity and least distortion? (Choose between Wide2, Wide1, Narrow2, Narrow1)

Also with the Mid Frequency, I dont hear any chance between 1khz or 2khz. What is your setting at?

In regards to HPF, is the way I set it up correct? Leave full pass on the amp but i can HPF it at 80hz or 125hz on the deck's EQ depending on what music i listen to?

It just distorts a lot more at 80hz sometimes when I crank it to full volume, depending on what music i listen to.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

that's just silly.

you have a parametric EQ. read up on it.

Switch the xover on your amp for your fronts to HPF and off of Full Pass if you want your mids to last.

3/4 gains might be pushing it...

his hu ain't 50watt rms x 4. more like 16-20watt x 4.

His speakers must be efficient (like any stock speakers anyway)

his you want clearer/higher high.... play with your "high" equalizer. We won't be able to tell you what to modified, as we aren't you, and we haven't heard your car.

and yeah, except if your hu put a 1 or 2v preout, gain might be too high

Wow, ok .

Honestly, it sounds pretty ****ing bomb. I have the tweets at -5, but sometimes theyre still too bright, so I have the treble at -2.

I guess i didnt actually state my problem.

Max vol on the D3 is 40. Right now I have it so that I can crank it to 32 without distortion. Once I hit 34 you can tell its clipping. But at 32-34 it isnt as loud as I want it to be, especially on the freeway with windows down.

Also, at HPF, doesnt the midbass just..completely dissappear?

HPF at 80hz.. no. The subbass

Ok cool, and someone has gotta explain to me the wide/narrow settings.

Or at least tell me in super simple terms what narrow or wider sounds/will sound like.

plzzzzzzzzzz (=

I liked picture books more, too.

for the right hemisphere'd people.
