Choose between 2 subs. TypeR or JL10W0.

I have the option to purchase an Alpine SWR-1041D or JL 10W0 for $90 at my local dealer. The type R was a display model but looks pretty good.

I will be powering them with an MTX Thunder 311D amp. The JL would get 100w @ 4 ohms. The Alpine would get 200w @ 2 ohms.

Which is the better choice? The dealer thought that the alpine would be underpowered.

my frien had those 2 setups before, he had the W0's firsts then went on to the type-R's and it sure was way better!

I like JL but the W0 series are garbage. Save yourself the trouble and get the Type-R.

Hard to justify? With the eD kx series and the Shiva and the RE subs out there, I would say impossible is a better word.

Type R all the way. I have owned a crap load of W0's and I enjoyed 1 12" type R far more than 3 12W0's.

I had 1 12" type R, and 2 different Type R 12's. I liked both setups better than any W0 setup I've had.

Also, even the Alpine Type-S and Kicker CompVR are better and can be had for less ...

Are you saying that they are better because the price or the Type-s and compvr perform better?

For $35 CDN they might be worth it, but for the general going price from an authorized dealer here in the States, NO WAY IN HELL!

Better period ... Type-S sounds pretty much as good, if not better, costs less handles more power, etc. .... The CompVR doesn't sound as good, but handles a lot more power and gets a lot louder ...
However, I'm not that disappointed with my 10W0-4s (err, my GF's) mostly because I got them for $35 each ...

So in that case I'm assuming you'd take a 10" type-r over an ED 10"K.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are saying. You said that both the CompVR and the Type S were better than the bottom of the line ED speaker. Or am I misunderstanding?

okay I misunderstood. I think what happened is I made a comment and you were responding to another line and I thought you were talking about the line I posted.

Thanks for all the help.

I took the JL 10W0 home for $90, dealer said to try it for 10 days and bring it back if I didn't like it.

Then I bought a Alpine TypeR floor model at CC for $70 + $30 for the 2 year warranty(i figured it was worth it since I don't know how much the floor model was abused).

The JL is gonna be going back. The TypeR definatly sounds better, and it will provide more of an upgrade path if I decide to get a bigger amp.
