Chevy Malibu Problems

I recently installed a Nac 40z into a Chevrolet Malibu (97) and before the customer was upset with radio reception with her factory headunit. After installing the Nac her problem was actually a bit worse. Now when she had her factory it would have radio reception for awhile sometimes...then it'd turn crappy. My question is...is anyone familair with problems with reception on that generation of cars? Also is that antenna amplified? Finally...if it is amplified is it possible it has an inline fuse somewhere?
