cheater amps? you tell me....

I have done a bit of PS and output section swapping in my day. I have to say though, you can not really double your output by changing little things. You have to change a lot. Such as the main power transformer(s) and the mosfets, then modify the controller so that the SMPS action is set to stop charging at a different voltage via changing the divider network being one way. It really is fun to tinker with an amp that you don't really care about. Though be careful, they are indeed lethal, especially when you get a considerate amount of filter capacitors on there.

a sundown saz1500d retails for $800, thats about what a mtx2300 sold for back then, mtx rated at 600w, but really did about 900, compared to the sundown at 1500w, or more
you have to consider that the internet has taken a toll on just about every product around and your comparing an a/b amp to a class d. if it was a class a/b 1500w amp i bet it would be much more expensive.

sundown is a good company now compare the saz1500d to a power akousticrap 1500w rms amp.

i doubt you would get the sundown for that price if it wasnt for the internet. is $800 the msrp or is that what they are selling for?

and yet again, I call it that and get flamed and the argument is always the same give it enough juice and it will do rated, yeah right ! lolz

That makes no sense. Instead of modding one why just save up the cash and buy one that's built that way. Why tear up a amp and void your warrenty? Stupid.
If I can spend $800 dollars on an amp to achieve a clean 2K RMS, or I can spend $500 dollars on an amp, mod it with parts that cost $200, and get a clean 2K RMS. I'm gunna do that. There's a price difference not to mention the DIY factor where you're proud of what you did. Even if no one else knows. You know.

lol i wouldnt even compare a sundown to a pa amp. but $800 is the msrp, i have no clue what they really sell for, guess i could check ssa, i think its around 600. I was just going off of msrp, i remember a local shop and they sold everything at msrp. Just trying to keep it uniform. Nobody pays msrp

x's 2

if I knew how and it was cheaper hell yes! lolz

To get back to the question of "cheating", I would say since there is no actual competition happening then there could be no cheating. As far as modding an amp I wish I knew what and how to do it, I would have no problem trying it on a couple of my older amps.

yea but you know what im saying, cant compare as far as pricing because of the internet for one and check out some amps of the same company alot of times a 300w 2ch a/b amp is more than their 500d.

I have a few lightning audio 150.2 amps sitting around here, im really good with soldering but i have no idea how amps work, and it would be awesome to know a few little tips and tricks to get even 20 more clean watts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so if anyone knows, id love to hear how some of this can be done.

Yeah but why take that chance. At the end of the day that's what it is. I'm sure not many modded amps are built to last. So if you screw up, then your out of an amp and you screwed out of parts. I wouldn't risk it.

Easiest way to get a extra 20 clean watts is to help your electrical.

Very rough but lets say you can get a extra .5 volts and keep it stable, and the amp draws 60. 60 * 0.5 = 30 watts. give or take a loss and you have your easy 20 watts.
