Cheap TC9 Box

I jumped on the tc9 sale and decided to build early. I think this is my 7th? box. It's 2.3 cubes @ 30hz, but I forgot driver displacement so I'll just invert the sub. Roundover with flush mount in double baffle.

This was my first attempt at screwless construction and sofar its worked so much beter and easily than screws or brads. I can set everything perfectly before it sets.

I would like to know if 45 degree angle pieces in the corners are worth the extra work?

That looks like a ton of port area for such short port length for it to be tuned to 30hz. Do you have the plans anywhere?

****. i had a feeling something was bound to be off. i kinda rushed the math beforehand. I can always double (or triple) up the port wall I suppose

Hmm... I dunno if I even have the paper anymore.... but i think its 14.5x10x25.75. I have peices to triple the outer port wall, which would make the are 25sq" a fourth would make it 17. Port length is 12". I wound up finding a few plans with 12 inch long 4" round ports, I calculated the area with dia. instead of radius, giving me about 36sq".

Well without knowing all the exact dimensions of the port and enclosure, it looks like that enclosure is tuned to over 45hz. If you made the port about 2" wide, you would have a tuning in the upper 30s. You probably just want to put this enclosure aside for a fart box and try again.

Those are the exact internal dimensions. The port as it is right now is 4x10x12. i can add as many pieces to the outer port wall as I can/need. If 2x10 would be upper thirties how would 1.75 or 1" be? Recutting's a hassle so I'm just gonna do what I can with this one and use it.

Are the internal dimensions of 14.5x10x25.75 including or excluding the port? You need to be specific as it will have a huge effect on the actual volume of the enclosure. If that is NOT including the port, you're looking at 2.16 cubic feet. That puts your tuning at a little over 50hz. A 1.75" wide port that is 10" tall and 12" long will bring the tuning to 36hz and I would not make it any smaller than that.

I really doubt the enclosure will sound decent like that.

Well, I screwed around in sketchup and this might work for you:

You need to add three panels to the port. Do NOT put them on the outside wall of the enclosure because that will not get you the length you need. With the panels there, you will have about 19" of port length and 1.75" width. 17 square inches of port is not ideal but it might be fine. It's really your only option to get the tuning frequency you desire. If you do what I say, it should be tuned around 30hz.

Next time, you might want somebody else to design an enclosure for you.

How did you do this? Be more specific about your dimensions; stop trying to do this on your own because you're failing.

If your port is 4" wide like you have said and your internal depth is 14.5" like you said, the above picture is about the only thing I would do. I hope you didn't just start gluing shit together. This is NOT the way to build an enclosure. Think before you start throwing things together.

Imma is right as usual, your tuning looks to be near 50hz, although he was out of line by saying that you shouldn't do it yourself since you ****. I don't agree. The only way to learn how to do this right is to make mistakes and learn from them. Yes, make sure that your math is right the first time, but I made about 20 or so boxes myself before I started selling them, more designs than that even. No, you didn't fail at anything. You did some math wrong, which everyone does when starting with designs and box building. ****, I used to make my designs during health class when I started and the first thing I made was 2" too short on one side. Just keep at it and ask for help on here next time.

sorry, didnt add . this wouldn't have been an issue, but i dont have as little as t/s parameters for a driver i havent even gotten yet. math and carpentry certainly dont elude me, but theres a little more long-term benefit to trial and error than just following directions. besides, my ears really cant differentiate between frequency peaks anyway.
