Cheap Brands

OH YES, I TAKE HUGE SH*T ON SONY AND JENSEN!!! AVOID FROM BUYING GRASSHOPPER!

obviously i have had bad luck with sony and jensen. but i have to admit that sonys home theater devices are great

Originally posted by JaJay721 I have heard and listened to many sony head units. There older stuff was not bad. For the money of a Sony head unit you can buy a much more reliable and better sounding brand. That is a fact. When comparing Alpine to Panasonic I would say you cannot compare them because they are in different classes of car audio. But when comparing Sony to a similar priced Pioneer or even Panasonic you will almost always come up with a better sounding head unit and a more reliable brand.

Sony is a great electronics company, but they have divisions. Their car audio division is not that great. Many other sony products and divisions are excellent.
Well that may be the case- but that's not a reason for people to not buy a Sony if they like them. To say their car audio division is not that great is just an opinion, and I know everything on here is basically just an opinon, but if some 16 year old kid who doesn't know much comes on here and likes Sony. You may be doing him an injustice by saying they are crap. He may buy one and think it's the greatest HU on the planet, or he could spend $100 more on an Alpine- not like it as much and wish he hadn't wasted the money.

What do you mean by more reliable? I haven't ever seen the "reliability factor" listed on HU brands? Is this just personal experience again? Because if it is it might be nice to mention that if you want us to take you seriously.

In my personal experience- Sony sucks. But it could have just been that particular model I had, and I can grasp the concept that some of the stuff they make may actually be very good.

most of my home stuff is sony (television, dvd with dts crap thingie, vcr etc.) and i´m very happy with it... Its not the best thing to buy but its a bit higher then average product with a pretty good design.

For caraudio I MIGHT once again buy a xplod HU couz it pleased me fairly but NEVER, NEVER AGAIN A AMP OR SUB !

Well I had a Sony CDX-M610 and over the course of a year or so it turned into POS I sold for 60 bux - because I wouldn't feel right selling it for over that. The thing would skip so often and randomly for no reason even for a perfectly fine CD. You can imagine how well it performed on the road. An old b1tchy woman is how I can best compare :p For a head unit that retails for that much (at least around the time I got it), it shouldn't turn shitty so fast. That is where the comparison is. A while ago I bought a kenwood cdplayer. The quality is waayyyy better as far as longevity goes. I bought that like 5 or 6 years ago, paid 150 or so for it, and it still is more reliable than that 300 dollar sony POS that was manufactured years after. In the mean time I'm hoping to get my panasonic HU in the mail tommorow! yay!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

my 7 year old mobile ES works fine...it even fixed itself :p

seriously, I guess you only know the ones that are available in your area...

if you only knew waht the true market of hu in the counry of origin is like...

yes, you are also correct about alpine and panasonic not being in the same class...

if you want a head to head comparison of each companies top product, the alpine will be BASHED and THRASHED by panasonic's Bb. The alpine does not stand a chance. The panasonic Bd's rival Denon and McIntosh. When was the last time you hear any Alpine hu doing that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have no owned many units nor installed them, but I have seen a great deal of hu's here... and I'm sure a whole LOT more than almost everyone here. WHy? Cause my country's neighbour is Japan:D

Japan releases new models every 2months (so many sutom made, limited edition stuff here, not one single man has managed to keep track of half of them so far), and the trend here is to buy the most expensive, the best, the loudest, etc, etc. Ohhhhh, I can tell you for SURE those two companies are NOT in the same category. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sony in car audio? I like my HU. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Unlucky for you guys, lucky for us, Japan chooses to save their ultimate products for themselves (and we got people who go into japan and export it to Korea by the bulk)

If you want, I could send you a deck. Brand new, second hand (usually 3 months old, and they are always upgrading the newer hu's) you choose. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i personally think that sonys home audio products are the sh*t. i love their products. but ever since they came out with xplod, they just dug themselves into a ditch and ruined their reputation. but their new hu's seem pretty impressive. lets see if they can dig themselves out

well I know most of their non-car audio products kick total a$$. We have a six disc changer home theater system we bought a few years back and it rules. But needless to say it seems that alot of people have had bad experiences with the car audio stuff. They assume since it's sony, they could expect the same quality product that you get at home. Unfortunately due to countless bad reviews, Sony seemed to cut corners in that division (at least in America).

I have experience with only 1 Sony HU - the one currently in my son's truck. It skips on CD's that play fine in my Pioneer, and the volume control has become intermittant and will randomly alternate between zero and full blast, all by itself.

These problems are not isolated to his unit. I have read of others having exactly the same problems.

I conclude that Sony sucks. It'll be a cold day in hell before I recommend one to anybody.

Most of the reviews in the review section are not that helpful although it is an interesting read.

I think I started the whole Sony controversy on this thread and got flamed at first, now it seems the majority of the people on this forum agree with me. I do not feel sony is a bad product, I just do not think it is worth the price they charge and you could do much better spending your money elsewhere.

I hate to say it and I may get flamed again, but Sony to me seems more of a ricer fad than a quality brand. I am not saying all Sony car audio product owners are ricers I just think the reason they get as much notice as they do is because ricers put them in their cars and speak the world of them for no reason other than they look nice.

Im a fan of Mobile ES, thats about where it ends...I'm not a fan of sony amps and subs...thats where I stand on the issue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sony is making a pretty big comeback on their car audio products. just wait. in about 9 months when their new sony es line is affordable, everyone will be raving about their product. but alpine will always be the leader

Well they do look nice - they're one of the coolest looking HU's i've seen. But looks are quite deceiving. The new panasonic I just got blows away my old sony HU in every way - esp. sound Q.
