Enjoys loud noises.
So i just installed new speakers for my girlfriend's truck (96 dodge dakota, 3.9l Magnum) and i was testing it out on the way home. I was turning it up to volume level 27 (out of 40) and it was pretty loud at 25, and it CD player cut off completely. No big deal, i thought it was just the fuse. I attempted to check every single fuse on the vehicle (after consoling the owner's manual to find the radio fuse) and they are all good. I also tried the fuse on the back of the radio, and it is fine. I didn't eyeball it, i used a multimeter on every one. I checked the ground on the stereo, it was fine too. (attached to the chassis, not a weak ground) Also, the dome light doesn't come on anymore. So, after checking the fuses and ground, what's the next logical step to take?

**cliff notes: Radio stopped, checked all fuses and grounds, what now?**

Maybe if you could be a little more specific as to what is actually going on. Is there no power now to the cd player?? Or does it have power and no sound?? Since you just installed speakers I would assume that one of the speaker connections is grounding out on the door causing the deck to shut off the sound. If you have no power then you should use a multimeter to check the acc and v+ on the back of the radio or go through the fuse box and check all fuses. Not just the ones that say radio. Does it have the infinity system?? If so you may have blown the factory amp fuse. Sorry if this sounds blurred. I have been drinking haha

haha, thanks for your help, even if you are a little buzzed. The unit simply won't come on. I pressed all the buttons on the face, it just doesn't turn on. I will check the power leads, and get back to ya! Thanks.

I have a 03 Dakota and had what sounds like the same problem... Did you check the fuses under the hood.... You are looking for the fuse for the constant wire's(that is why the dome light wont come on). It is a 10 amp fuse (I think) that is located in the power distribution center under the hood on the driver side just behind the bat. You probably need to up the size of the fuse.
