Carputer 101

I appreciate your post, but I prefer to use a laptop so I can take my entertainment with me. My head unit has an aux input into it, and I connect the headphone out jack to the aux input. I use Zoom Player as a dvd player. It plays .vob files, .avi files and apple files. I presently have 400 videos on the computer and about 2000 .mp3's.

As far as my set up, for internet access, I use a cellular data card with unlimited data for about $60 a month. For gps, I use Delorme Street Atlas, available for less than $100.00. You can also get the complete listing of every phone listing in the US for a few more bucks.

My system is composed of (2) 12" Sony (Walmart) Subs, 1100 w max, (2) 10" RF Punch 1's, (4) 6x9's Sony 230 w max, (1) RF 150x amp for 6x9's, and (1) 1000w Lanzar amp for the subs. RF's bridged on 1 channel, Sony's bridged on 2 channels.

The cost of this system was extremely cheap considering the volume and sound quality. I dare anyone in my area to listen to it and tell me it sounds like crap.

Yeah, that sounds a little bitter, but when I was setting it up, I got bad responses from some of the people here.

I will do a 'How to" thread to show how to get dvd quality videos off of the net for no cost.

lol, I have has at least 30 people ask me to do a computer install for them.

congratulations! you have just post dumped in my thread nub. you obviously dont know quality when you hear it. but in despite that i wish you the best of luck with your mega iPod. the point of this thread was to ask questions about a somewhat dedicated computer for the car hence the phrase "carputer" or "truckputer" for that nature. But please dont ever mention SONY in my thread again and about how many people that have asked you about your "installs",thank you:)

p.s. your name Luzer states reality for you

Tell me why its too sluggish to smoothly play a DVD with only 1 program running. I have maxxed out my ram, 1gb. I have 1.2ghz processor. And I cant watch DVDs with it. I even tried the OLD media player that uses VERY little to run.

BTW...any way I can integrate the AVS screens from winamp into the centrafuse?
I don't carry dvd's with me, I carry the .vob files. I have at least 400 dvd quality vidoes that I am able to watch on a 15" screen. I have no problems at all with sluggishness, rofl.

And as far as carring around a huge ipod, lmao. ipods ****. Besides, when has an ipod ever been able to do everything a laptop can?

It's a shame you know not what you speak of.

I challenge anyone in the NC area to listen to my setup, and post here (not this thread, I've already dumped on it, and I do apologize) what they think.

I don't see a reason to do a carputer if it can't do what you install it to do, rofl.

Drive ur happy ass down here, and be insulted.

#1. Mixing SIZES of woofers...isnt a good thing, and by the way, IT NEVER IS.

#2. You must not realize how GAY it looks to see a person playing with a laptop in a vehicle. What? You lie to the lil kids and say it controls your engine? Or you come clean and admit its your porn collection?

And BTW....my computer does what I want it to do. Look good. Look professional. Turn heads. Make me money.

NO ONE gets paid to put a laptop on a seat.

As far as the sound system itself...LMAO....I'd bet my entire vehicle I have better SQ and SPL than you do. And thats only with a 150 watt TOTAL system.

Purpose of the carputer,is to have an alternative to a fancy HU. when you can do the same things on a pc if not much more. and to actually "install" it makes it even more custom and a stock feeling instead of a huge bulky laptop that doesnt really go with a car. if its really functionality you desire then carry your laptop. but if you want functionmalty while maintaining a "look" do a carputer. but having a carputer installed properly is much better you set it and its much better. plus you get a touchscreen involved. fun stuffs.

edit: laptops cost a bundle to get what you desire custom.

The carputer is a sweet deal if you only have one car, I guess. I have 4, and I like the ability to carry my music with me, either to another car, or to hook into my home stereo. I need the laptop for work, so I have to have it with me at all times.

As far as the sound quality, I know how shitty S*ny is, really, I do. But as I stated in other threads, for what ever reason, my system blows people away. I can only guess it's the pure digital nature of the files being put through the head unit. The head unit has an aux input adjustment.

But again, it is not a bass heavy system, and certainly not comp worthy, but EVERYONE who has heard and seen it has wanted it. Period.

I travel alot, and go to many cities, and have checked with every independant installer I could find, and they all said it rocked, and most said they couldn't believe I had S*ny speakers. (I am trying to be nice by not mentioning the brand name)

I really would like someone, anyone, in NC to listen and post here. Sorry, SilverSquared, you are a bit too far away.

Edit: I'm from Louisiana, I'm a coon ass, and proud of it.

When it comes to Sony i am pretty hard headed about it. the only Sony product i use is the dvd-r's and my sony LCD tv(only because i got such a great deal on it,id rather have a Samsung DLP).

Damn thats a lot of power. You built that whole thing with no BMS? A balancer is good to add of course but a bms is mandatory. I see people doing...
