car sub to a home theater?

If you have a home theater amp....then it is just a plug-n-play just like hooking a car sub up to a car amp. However, most home amps aren't stable below 4ohm, and some aren't stable below 8ohm. So check and make sure your sub won't fry the amp with too low of an impedence.

Or, are you needing to hook up a car amp also??

well i have a kicker sub and a 500 watt panasonic receiver, and i know the sub output on the receiver is a RCA plug and the back of the kicker is different from that. is there anyway or a type of wire i can to hook this up? or do i have to do something else?
