Car speakers hooked up to a home receiver???

So I have this Yamaha 5.1 receiver (110watts to each channel) just layin around, since I upgraded to a new one. Tried selling it, but people seem to want me to just give it away, so I thought project! If I remember correctly home receivers and speakers operate at an 8 ohm rating. So if I got, say two 6.5 8ohm speakers and one sub that is also 8ohms, would the home receiver be able play them, and play them efficiently? I'll make sure the wattage rating on the speakers match up and everything, I just didn't know if it would work w/o hurting anything. Also, could I wire up a 4ohm dvc sub to an 8ohm rating and would that work? Just wondering, and figured it would give me something dumb to do!!! Thanks for your help

What model is your receiver? I would assume the speaker channels are between 6-8ohms and the sub channel being 4ohm, however I could be completely wrong...

I have done it before and it worked just fine, I even ran my ****** Insignia receiver below rated impedance and it was just fine.

i have the same one, I looked in my manual for you it seems everything is ran in 8 ohm you can run the sub in 8 ohm if you hook it up parallel. Under dynamic power it says 8/6/4/2ohms at 120/140/160/180 watts i can't tell if its for the sub channel or the surround channels. Above that it says 8 or 6 ohms 100 watts for the center and surround speakers. if you go here Rockford Fosgate® - Woofer WiringWizard it will tell you how to wire your SVC 6.5 woofers to 8ohms that way your on the safe side with everything.
