Lol, so I went to start my old BMW and it usually starts fine. Today when i went to start it, i guess my battery was a little drained (this happens from time to time because of my system) and i turned the key... it sounded limp with stutters trying to start, and I just kept the key at the start turn...

A few seconds later, POP! That is the noise it made. Then a little smoke came out of hood(not alot by any means).

So i jump it with my Acura, and the car starts fine. However when i took it around the block for a drive, the car shuts off!

What could this be? I have jumped it several times and if I stop revving the engine it immediately shuts off.

Would a blown starter cause this?

This actually can be caused by your air intake. Make sure you don't have any loose clamps or holes on/in your intake tube. You might need to change your intake sensor. Not saying this is definitely the cause, but it sound like that to me. I had a very similar problem with a car I had. It turned out to be a loose clamp on hose/air filter connection. A blown starter would not cause this.

I had a problem like this for my dirt bike... which i know its basically nothing like car. But what was the problem was that the valve clearance was out of specs. I had to reshim the valves and it starts up fine and doesnt shut off.

But how would the valves be bad all of a sudden? It only happened when i tried starting the car in that hold turn key position
