also have to check the impedance of the speakers. Most home audio receiver/amplifers don't run below 4 ohms. If the alpines were 2 ohms it'd be a no no
I had a set of Infinity Reference 6.5 comps I had around the house and hooked them up to a older Kenwood Reciever for power. The signal came in from the computer via a wire (3.5 mini plug on one end, and a pair of RCAs on the other) that I got from Radio Shack. Even without an enclosure, they sounded wonderful and loud as hell.
I watch DVDs in my room all the time, and my stock computers speakers was not cutting it. Main problem I had was crossing them over. I use Windows Media Player's EQ to clean up the sound a lil bit and remove some of the lower frequencies but I really need some active crossover to really make it shine. I also got a AA assassin 12 that im goin to get reconed and use as a sub in the room as well.
The whole deal cost me little or nothing. I bought the reciever from my uncle for about $20. F-Mod Rca plug in crossovers should work fine and offer something to clean up the sound a lil bit.
