Car Audio Problem

I was driving today listening to my ipod on my alpine cda-9887 (everything sounds great) then all of a sudden I get like a screeching noise. This happens on all sources (radio, cd, ipod). I was surprised at first, so i shut the unit off and then turned it back on. The noise sounds like when you have the TV turned to a channel with nothing but static. Worked for a few minutes then the same screeching noise. I am home and now I'm pulling the headunit out to see what the deal is. In any case, I'm sure there are people on this forum who have had this problem.

Also, a few days ago, the plastic cover came off my positive terminal on my battery and I didn't realize this until my hood almost melted to my terminal. I don't believe anything was damaged other than the metal on the terminal a little bit, everything worked fine for a few days until this problem.

I would appreciate any suggestions on this matter.

Okay, I took apart my system. I unplugged all RCAs and still the loud screeching noise gets to the speakers. This leads me to believe it is with the amplifier.

bad ground possibly

I cut the grounding wire in half. I unplugged all the speakers and tested each one in a different channel and it still plays fine for a little while then a loud screeching noise. I'm starting to believe it is the amplifier. I have another amp in my room i am going to test. I'll let you guys know.

I hooked up an old class A amp I had in my room and it works perfectly. I'm starting to suspect that my Phoenix Gold 200.4 took a shit on me..... ****it....
