Car audio out to sea?

I think ill have to take some measurements and see what I can come up with. I also wanted to mount the pair of kenwood marine speakers somewhere on the roof. I was thinking of making a lil box to put them in, and probably spray them to make it blend in with the boat. Is there any specs as to what size the box for such speakers should be?

The only thing is, we already have these speakers, and wanna use what we got already. Maybe in the future we can add those 6*9z...

just a lil bump update.

We finally decided to setup the system yesterday. Just ran the infinity & kenwood mids on a RF 4chn amp we had (2 pairs of speakers), and for bass, I just tried a 10" pioneer woofer for kixx, since I havent received my 2 pioneer 12" in the bandpass yet. The woofer is running off of a sony 2100gt or somthing like that....yes I know...sony! I didnt buy it, just working with that we had already :p

Anyway, the system sounds nice so far with just the 4 speakers, and the makeshift 10inch. The 10inch was in a 1cuft box. I tried putting it in the cabin area, and there was no bass...literally. I then tried placing it under one of the seats near the front, and the bass was decent.

Im now wondering if the 2 12z in the bandpass will play well in the cabin area, guess ill just have to wait till I try them, maybe this afternoon.

Im also gonna have to setup a mic on this system. I tried rigging it up using a cheap EQ, and it 'worked". For some reason it was only working on 1/2 the channels, and well needless to say, the engine noise coming through the speakers was rediculas!!! I am just going to get the CD-RB10 from pioneer for my deck (dehp3600), and run it that way, hope that works out :p

also...do you guys think 4 RE8z would do a good job...or 4 8z for that matter of any kind.

How much would 4 re8z cost?

bump for suggestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif

you know, no one has mentioned a passive radiator. USe that instead of a port and you got yourself a somewhat balance of a ported and sealed box.

If in doubt, go for like three or four bazooka tubes and strap it on the roof.

that's a passive radiator

hmm cool!!

I think im gonna try going with 4 8z now though...in 2 bandpasses under the seats.

I tried putting a dvc pioneer 10 (in a prefab pioneer bandpass) this afternoon, and I was pretty impressed.

So im almost certain the 4 8z will go boom //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well, i also herd that goretex is a great fabric to use in mariene situation.

if you port your box, you can throw a thin layer of goretex over the port, and it will allow the port to breathe, but wont let water in.

and if you make a little grill out of the stuff for the front, it would physically protect it, and keep the water off the cone too.

if you decide to paint little wood boxes you make, seal them with fiberglass resin, then prime\paint\clearcoat.

4 sealed 8's in .3ish cubic boxes hung from the ceiling in the corners would sound quite nice. and then put each speaker next to them (or conviently make a box that connects to the 8's box for the mariene speakers.

that would be sweet.

That gortex plan seems like a good idea! Actually one of the main reasons I want to put them in a bandpass, is to physically protect them. If I were to make 2 bandpasses for them (2 subs each), and put them under the seats at the front that should be perfect. I would then fiberglass them off, and spray them to protect the box, also I will ry getting that goretex. I wonder how I will fiberglass the boxes with the speakers in them though, hope the chemicals done screw them up...

Do you have any suggestion for a bandpass design?

i wouldnt worry about bandpass, make some grills outta a MDF ring and some goretex, and then port them and do the same to the port. as for "fiberglassing them in" im not sure what you mean. i would just make a rectangular box with a slot (or round for that matter) port and slide it in place.

personally, id make all 4 in small sealed boxes, with an addition made to the side for the mariene speakers, and install them from that roof to create the best imaging and save the most space.

but like you said, tis up to you =)
