Clipping/distortion in and of itself does not damage a speaker, which I believe was the original point. Clipping *can* certainly create a situation in which your speakers are receiving more power than you realize, but that does not mean distortion is the cause of a failure.

Distortion does NOT kill speakers.

not really. companies just don't make 15" and 18" SQ woofers that often. although i was doing some testing the other day and was a bit surprised as to how well my 15 kept up with double bass.
