ok..well today...i tried to help install my friends audio system. first...we got it to work.

then i pushed it im (the head unit) and the 12+v9(remote) touched the ground....or the metal on the car (the ground)

so i heard the subs go...boop....like i little thing....and the H/u shut off...and the amp shut off.

luckily that was the old H/u and we have a new really nice one, (not sure if its dead, and don't care)

but here is the thing....the h/u is now powered on...the lights but nothing runs..like the thing...but the lights are on...and it only turns on when you turn the in dash lights for the speedometer and stuff....

im so confused...

please dont flame me for my stupidity...i know im dumb..you can say im dumb..dont care....but dont make this a thread of what i did wrong..because i know

thanks to anyone with any advise.

i had a sorta similar problem on an eclipse check the dimmer switch and the little switch that u use to turn the lights on the rotarty switch ull need a dmm

Check any fuses on the deck, check the fuses for the amp, check the fuses for the car. Thats a good start.
there is no fuse on the H/u that is visible. but there is a fuse were the power and the 12v+ are..those are in tacked.

have not checked the fuses on the amp...but i will tomorrow, i dont think any fuses are blown...if the ones on the H/U wires were not..then i would highly doubt the fuses on the amp are blown. but thanks for the suggestion.

can anyone explain why the in dash lights turn on and off the H/U

im so lost.

ok..i know what that is....sry....what will that tell me if i use one, and how would i solve it?

well when i had the problem it turned out to be that the headunit only worked when i switched on my lights so i figured out that the dimmer switch wire thing inside the rotary light switch was shoted i guess so i replaced that and all was spiffy also check the fuse under the hood on ur power wire

thank you ..ill let you know tomorrow morning how everything looks.

is so **** tired right now...lol

The main fuse panel will have a radio fuse. It is probably blown. The reason you are getting it to light up is the illumination lead is on a separate circuit and a different fuse.
thank you, ill be looking at it today.

do you think its possible that the amp fuses are blown?

x2...Is the amp coming on still?

not when i tried it last night...but the light switch was not turned on....how i know that the h/u was doing that is because i have that hooked up when we noticed the light switch thing....by then the remote from the amp was off the 12v remote source...and thats when the thing turned on...like i said ill look at it tomorrow. thanks for all your help guys. this has been a big headache for me, but hey...the more experience i get, the better ill be...all trail and error.
