So I just upgraded the stock speakers and head unit in my 2000 mustang with an alpine cda 105 head and rockford r1682s all around. I notice little or no difference in sound quality especially at high volumes. What could be the problem? Because this setup should blow away the stock system.

There's the first problem. They're not very sensitive, and based on the OP it doesn't look like they're being amplified. What kind of source are you using(iPod, flash drive, CD, radio, etc.)

pics of the speaker install? you need good seals at the speaker.

example of a speaker install:

adapters painted, T-nuts used for driver mounting. foam used to decouple baffle from door, on the back of the speaker between the baffle, and on the front of the speaker to seal it to the factory panel.

also, foam was used on the back of the midbass, and speaker terminals were heat shrunk.
