Car audio as a source of Visual Rhetoric! Input...

Whew.

Well, I'm doing a research paper based on Car Audio, imagine that. The catch is, it is a persuasive research paper and it must use two sources of visual rhetoric as it's primary sources. I am also required to have various other sources, and I plan on using this website as on of the other sources...particularly this thread.

Visual Rhetoric:

For our uses, we will define visual rhetoric as the fairly recent development of a theoretical framework describing how visual images communicate, as opposed to aural or verbal messages. The study of visual rhetoric is different from that of visual or graphic design, in that it emphasizes images as rational expressions of cultural meaning, as opposed to mere aesthetic consideration (Kress 18).

One of my pictures will be of the Alpine X5 2005 Demo car. I believe it's amazing.

I'm looking for another image, and also some input/discussion based on this thesis statement.

Thesis:

By examining the different media and cultural outlets devoted to car audio, we can show how car audio is more than a product; it can be a lifestyle.

Thanks for any discussion/input.

Hehe, got the white van! (Magnum was a close second as a choice).

But on to the other part. Using this thread (if it ever turns into fruitful discussion) as a source. I'd like to utilize the wealth of knowledge that some of the more upstanding forum members have as input/discussion in my research paper.

So, any discussion of my thesis...or car audio as a lifestyle in general would be amazing.

Engrish?

Spanglish?

Anything but that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Get some pics of Mark's old 4-runner and Gary Biggs' car....

They are prime examples of how extreme you can get into sound....maybe some pics of Chris Norris' van....

You can explain that this is a part of their lives, they take these vehicles and make them into the most extreme sound machines on the planet (wheather it be SQ or SPL oriented)...

I think this is what your looking for?

Yes, I've chosen my two primary visuals. I will also be using some visuals as secondary sources.

More than anything, I am looking for opinions/discussion of my thesis statement, like whether you believe it is truthful. How we could persuade someone not interested in car audio at all...that it is in fact a lifestyle.

Well you could go in the angle of how many hours of work and labor you put into a given install to achieve what you want to achieve...

Or...you could go with the argument of we sacrifice these cars and tear them all to pieces at first to later make them better...

eh..im rambling...i duno lol

I think that Kicker truck would make an awesome visual. You could also try and find info on how much money people spend on car audio anually and how much compaines spend on R&D and marketing.

as far as lifestyle is concerned. i believe many of us live the life of a true car audio enthusiast, i myself believe its a lifestyle. i think there are many people, from teenagers to old farts that have been living this life the same way we are. most of my spare time that is not devoted to things that are most important to me (namely my girlfriend) is spent in some way shape or form doing somthing related to car audio. i know most people would say that means its a hobby that i really enjoy, but what about hobbies? arent hobbies just things that people do to enjoy their life? i know hobbies last for a little while, and then a new one is found... but what about those of us who have been doing this for years. would that classify as being a lifestyle, rather than a hobby? similar to a fashion, and a fad? i know i spend alot of time, maybe more than is healthful thinking or doing things related to car audio (including this forum), but i believe that once your hobby catches you, and entices you to bring it further - it will become a lifestyle, the same as if somone was a boating enthusiast - and ended up buying a yacht and sailing around the world. that is now that persons lifestyle. the same can be said with totty and the "black van" (that sounds like a pirate refrence. or is it just me?). i think it is safe to say, that tottie now lives the life we would all enjoy living, being sponsored by numourous companies and living the car audio "dream". it can, and often does become a lifestyle for those of us who enjoy it so.

i may have hit the nail on the head ng, or i may be way off. eaither way, i hope i conftributed in a posative manner.

take it easy.

I would mention how car audio can cross both ethnic and socialeconomic boundaries in the journey/quest to achieve "perfect sound reproduction" and/or creating higher SPL through more effecient methods. The culture is an adventurous (sp?) one because of the lack of rule to constrain it. People are limited by their quest (spl, sq, etc) by their imaginative implementation of high notions in science (electromagnetic principles, for example).

It is a lifestyle of those with imagination and those who are "judged". For example, many common people don't understand the time, technique, and talent that is involved in accurate sound reproduction. There us more than "turning up the gains" to achieving these numbers. I would assume that many who design these car audio components are not high school dropouts, they are achieviers in math and sciences.

This is all I could think of in the 45seconds it took me to type it. Hope it helps.

I don't know if it has been addresses, but you could talk about how the people who do car audio take it into their lives, i.e. this forum, and when Norris had his own special forum on Termpro.com and all that.Mainly Norris and his "camp" threads. Shows how their whole lifestyle and all they do revolves around their focus on car audio. The thousands of dollars spent, and the countless hours devoted to it.

CHRIS NOR*** STILL HAS HIS OWN SECTION OVER THERE.
