I was just wondering how a cap will improve performance of a system. someone told me that a a capacitor makes the battery work less hard by storing power in the cap, thus, increasing capacity. Will i need a cap and how big for this application ...

1 12" new L7

rockford 700s amp

+ all the component stuff ,but using just that one amp.

could someone explain this to me a little better, would it be better to just replace the alternator or should my beat work just fine on stock power?

A cap is used for short musical bursts (bass when it really thumps), the cap stores the energy and provides extra energy, that the battery might lack. As long as your charging system is efficient, then a cap is a good idea. I think a 1 farad cap will be alright for your setup.
