I know, I know. This is probably going to stir up a huge argument. But I just want to know if i should do away with my caps or not. I dont think i really even need them, thats why. i got:

kicker kx1200.1 amp

jl 300/4 amp

for a total of 1500watts

but, i have a 160 amp HO alt and an Optima YT. ive also upgraded my BIG 3 to 2 awg wire.

so what do you think? cap or not?...with my setup...

ok, they will leave then. wheres a good place to connect the ground-to-chassis wire. i completely forgot to do that 1, but where should i do it? just anywhere i can find a ground on the block & chassis?

those amps are going to draw about 110 amps for deep bass thats only 50 amps for the rest of the car. CAPs are there to handle the extra amp draw when needed so that it does not take away from the other car components causing damage. I have been reading through these forums and can't figure out why everyone is saying cap=bad when in reality caps are there to help out the electrical system.

the reason you can't figure it out is most likely due to you having a very small brain.

You need to do some more research and practical application before you decide to say something you don't know anything about.

A capacitor holds enough energy for a micro burst of power.. a litteral spooge of power less than a second. So explain to me how that is supposed to power the whole system on legnthy bass hits? If you have a bolstered electrical system than the cap isnt going to do anything for you. By bolstered I mean large gauge wiring (usually 1/0 or larger to and from main electrical components), a High Output alternator (150A+ depending on the vehicle) and a larger and or second battery. If you are having voltage drops and dimming, the first thing to do is to upgrade the Big 3 wires under your hood. The second step is a bigger/better battery. the third step is to get a bigger/better alternator. From there you just keep adding batteries and alternators.

Also if a cap is such a "wonderful" idea, how come most pro competitors have absolutly NONE in their comp cars?

Go read some more and then come back to this forum.

I started to write a really long explanation about capacitors and the math behind why they work but I realized that even with 1900 posts you will still be a moron when it comes to electrical theory.

A cap does not hold just a momentary or split second charge as you have stated. A 5 Farad cap will hold 70 amp-seconds @ 14 volts.

Don’t believe me?

Then I encourage you to do the math yourself and look up Coulomb’s law, as you can see it’s not called Partagas law. This is real electrical theory not some made up crap that you spit out of your mouth because your mom told you to say it.

The need for a cap in any car audio system drops when you upgrade alternators and put in multiple batteries, but even a 160 amp alternator might need help (assuming one battery) if you have every electrical thing on in your car (headlamp, A/C, stereo) and capacitors don’t hurt especially when you already own them.

agreed^^ if they didn't help, they wouldn't have been invented... competitors don't often need anything like a capacitor because they have already spent tons of money on HO alts and batteries and so forth... but for the average car audio person with a not so good elec, capacitors do offer a bit of support.... they aren't worth the money they charge for them... you might as well save up for a bigger alt if that's the case... but if you can grab a 5 farad cap for cheap, why not... my friend got one and installed it, doens't add bass or anything, but it does help with dimming and so forth... just thought i would add my two cents..
