can't get amp set right. help

recently threw a build together for my girlfriend being that i don't have the spare cash to put what i wanted in her car atm. so running a sealed 12 box that i built for a friend who wanted to run one older model RF p3 12" in his extended cab s10. just got a new model RF R2-12 just something to throw in for the time being. 250rms-500peak running on a Rockford 250.1 can't seem to get the amp and line out set right. i have the gain Maybe! at a querter of the way up and the hz knob is at about 80 which is about a querter turned and the punch bass is basically at zero and it sounds ok but it's not really hitting like it should im getting basically no excursion and when i turn the gain up it gets loud but i lose all the sound and it starts to distort. it's a dual 4 and and i wired it with a 1ohm load. any suggestions? could it be the line out converter that i have set wrong? couple months ago i had an old kicker l5 from when i first got into car audio in there on a vented enclosure built to kicker specs on an old mtx 600.2 and it sounded amazing. but this keeps giving me problems

Does sound like a wiring issue.... Check wires on the sub. Polarity mite be off

do i only need to jumper one side to make a 4 ohm load or both?

If its a dual 4 then your wired at 2ohms.

If you are running a single D4 ohm sub, you can wire it to 2 ohms or 8 ohms nominal.

nvm that's what i meant. im second guessing myself i just threw it in within the last hour. everything seems to be on now checked my wiring it's good. it was the line out converter i had it cranked for when the L5 was in there turned it down about a quarter from where it was set the gain a bit more and it seems to be spot on now. thanks tho guys. sorry for such stupid questions just sometimes littlest things are your BIGGEST problems in caraudio..

and to anyone wondering why i blow money on overpriced rockford equipment it's because the shop near me i help out on their busy days doing installs and running the counter so i get great deals and whenever i smoke a woofer i just come in and pull another one out of the stock room haha

How do u have the sub wired?.....and is is sub a d4 or d2?.....do u have a multi meter to check the resistance?
