Hi.
car: Golf mk5 gti
please help with suggestions, of course i have googled and i know what would be done, but it
doesn't seem to work out that way.
I do have a Amp running a subwoffer right now.
The two subs are rated 300wrms @ 4ohm. so thats a 600wrms.
However the amp i use is rated 400wrms @ 4 ohms but its rated at 12volts (old skool lanzar)
I do have 13.7volts with car running.
The battery is a 75AH and the alternator is 140amps.
This is not a problem, the subs play really well and the car works nice.
The gain are set using a voltmeter.
I tried to notch up the volume (a bit above what i usually listen to) having the subs blow pretty well.
But at this point i could see slight dimming on my dashboard.
Did measure over the battery and have drops down to 11volts, and in rare cases even down to 7v.
I did actually plan to run a 400wrms amp for my speakers too. but i wont go further until i
have the juice i need.
I dont understand why i would need more juice with this setup as i used the same setup on
my older car which was 90amp alternator and same battery (the battery is 1 year old).
Problem is, there is no where i can fit a huge 2nd battery, its just not possible in this car as
i need to have my spare tire in place.
Now i googled and read that i wouldnt get much from upgrading the alt either as my ECU would only allow the stock rated amps.
Also, everyone says caps are **** so i dont know about that either.
Adding a huge cap could let me add this second amplifier or what?
Havent done the big three yet, but it seem to be halfway done already as my battery is grounded
in two places where the second place got a pretty thick ground.
Could adding a phat cable from the +batt to the alt be enough?
Sorry i havent done it yet.
wanted some thoughts.
As i gonna add another amplifier anyways i might just need some more juice.
Since the lanzar is rated at 12volts, 400wrms@4 800wrms@2 i did overdo the math a
bit just to be safe, and would say my final setup could be around 1200wrms.
i did look at ebay for these slim lightweight batteries, they doesnt take up alot of
space and i could just mount a few of them onto the sub enclosure.
Would that be a good idea?
I found a few that could add me another 30ah (2x15) could that be enough?
Again, there is not possible to add another huge and heavy battery anywhere in the car.
