Can you repair tinsels without reconing?!?!

dude, are you a moron? I was asking if this was a symptom of a clipping amp. I don't know if my amp was clipping.
Even if you set your gains with a dmm, it won't tell you if your amp is clipping.
ur a moron....... now that i see were in page 3 im sure someone has explained it to you so ill refrain from repeating.

Ever hear of benching an amp? Im not going to sit here and argue with you. Your the type of person who thinks there right 100% of the time.
Wouldn't an oscilloscope be one of the tools you used when benchmarking an amp?

I made a thread asking questions. You obviously are giving the wrong answers so I'm ignoring you and listening to the correct ones. Audioholic, the727kid, ngsm13, etc.

I did it the correct, and only way I see fit. Makes it as good as new if you know what you're doing.

I removed the dustcap, and carefully dissected the CA glue covering the solder joint between the tinsel leadn and the coil lead coming from the top of the former. I then very carefully de-soldered the tinsel leads... the coil lead are very fragile and will break.

Next obtain some new tinsel lead, enough to replace the entire length. Thread it through the point near the triple joint... and solder the one end to the coil lead. The cover is in CA glue. And carefully put the dustcap back on. Trim to proper length, then solder new tinsel to the appropriate terminal.

Bam.

Yes I agree with him. And listen to ngsm, obviously.

Why is everyone assuming this tinsel failure was a thermal problem (clipping)?

Over excursion is a mechanical failure due just as much to enclosure size/type/alignment and to SSF settings (or lack there of), as it is to simple 'over powering' , clipping or not.

we were busting his balls cause in the first post he admitted he was "clipping like hell"..... so we suggest set his amp right and he wouldnt have that problem. he then said that setting the amp correctly didnt prevent the amp from clipping..........

good stuff.

he didnt say it was clipping like hell. he asked if it looked like it was caused by the amp clipping like hell. he was asking for advice. no reason to change his wording to make him sound stupid.

a DMM wont show clipping. you can check exact volts if you have a resistor in place of a speaker. doing it that way will make sure you are not clipping but wont show if a higher gain is clipping.

no reason to tear this guy apart. you got your answer. good luck fixing it.

The only people busting my balls are you and bass-aholic, and you guys are totally clueless LMAO. I already stated, I don't know if my amp was clipping. I set the gain with a dmm and it's been running for a good 4 fucking months so don't give me that shiz about not knowing how to set my gain. That doesn't mean it was not clipping though, What don't you understand about the possibility of an amp clipping at supposed rated power?

It could also have been a boosted shitty track, Idk what happened, hence asking for advice. I would think after being on CA.com for a while you'd learn more than that as well as some humility.

Why don't you look back to the sarcasm from people more knowledgeable than you before you talk shit. Bottom line, you can't totally detect/prevent clipping with just a DMM.

Please tell me how a DMM tells me if the amp is clipping.
It says it in this computer-type voice.
Man where can I get one these DMMs?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

resolder a new lead to that.

contact some of these speaker companies about purchasing like 2ft of lead.. then try soldering a new lead on their. if you fail a few times then just buy a new recone.

this happened to my 05 xxx, i soldered in a new lead, and it's held up 100% since then and is still in perfect working condition.

To find out how much power my amp puts out I brought it out on a nice dinner a walk on the beach got it a little drunk got home and benched it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
