can you really have too much?

HEY! I am going to be putting this system in a very small area soon.

It was 2 sets of ZR650's (2-way 6.5" component set)

450/4 Amp

2 13.5W7's in a ported box

2 1000/1's (maybe 4... i doubt it though)

Would it be smart to add 2 10" subs to the cross overs and run them as a 3-way component set? I am kind of scared the 13's will miss some of the mid bass in my ported box or will this just sound stupid? Thanks

(if you say yes to the 2 10"... you think I should make those in a ported box as well or is that just rediculous?)

she had too much

cool... thats what i was looking for. Hmmm... well what would you guys suggest I do for that quick thump kind of mid base? Or should these 2 13.5's be able to cover most of it?

Your crossover won't magically properly route signals to whatever you hook to it. It is pre-configured to bandpass the mids and highpass the tweeters, that's it.

Hooking a set of 10'' woofers to it won't do anything other than make the 10s play the same frequencies as the 6.5s, if it even works that is, because it will screw with the total impedance the amp sees from your component set.

The best way to do a 3-way setup is to have the dedicated bass drivers up front play down to 50hz or so and a small range of frequencies above that. Have the 6.5s play everything above the 10s to the tweeters, and the tweeters play everything above that. Then just have your sub bring in the punch on ~50hz or lower tones.

LOL. A good set of comps should be able to cover it, not your subs. If you play your subs too high it will pull your soundstage back towards them.

How are you planning to hook up the Z6s to the 450/4?

Have you really thought this through?

If that. I think most passive crossovers just split them at a certain frequency, sending the lows to the mids and highs to the tweets. Your mids will still play all the way down (too low) unless you have another crossover somwehere, like in the head unit, amp, or external crossover/processor/eq.

No... I just buy stuff and tell people to make it work.haha if it doesn't work then it goes on ebay. Its all going to go in a very small cab.

The 2 13.5's are right behind the seats and the port comes right inbetween them. There are a set of 6.5's going in the door with tweets on the colum by the windshield and then the other 6.5's either in kick pannels or in a fiberglass enclosure in the headliner with tweets next to it or on the back colums. that was my idea atleast...

Yikes!

One set of components should be fine, and sonically, will probably yield better results unless you only care about being a hair louder. What I was actually asking is how you planned on running both sets from the 450/4. That amp can be configured 150x2 + 75x2 or just 150x3. Maybe 300x1 and 75x2 or 300x1 and 150x1, I am not positive without looking at the manual. So are you going to send 150 each to one set and half that to the other set? Might as well set it up with front stage and rear fill if you do that, imo. Honestly, in a lot of vehicles, you can mount the tweets on or near the mids and get great sound. Don't assume that you have to mount the tweets high on the pillars, as that does not always yield the best result, and won't be the easiest route unless you have a stock mounting location for them already.

Did you say you are running the subs ported? Are you sure you have the room? Keep in mind those amps are not tiny by any means. If this is all going in the cab of a truck, it could be a very tight fit.

If you are willing to spend the large amount of money to get that kind of equipment, you should do some research or consult a trustworthy expert before you just dive in and buy everything.
