I'm looking at how to do adjust my parametric eq on my HU but i dont understand exactly what the manual is saying.

for bass, mid, and treb i have four settings to pick for each: wide, midwide, normal, narrow

can someone explain exactly what im doing when i change those settings for any of those 3?

I don't think a unit that could go active would only have a 3 band EQ...
A 3 band parametric EQ can cover just as wide of a band as say a 10 band graphic EQ and can actually allow a more specific EQ curve but it's harder to tune.

The difference between wide and narrow is the Q value for the function. Q is the selectivity of the EQ. The higher the Q, the more narrow the curve and the less frequencies affected. The lower the Q, the more frequencies involved but the curve is much less steep. You can see the difference in the ghetto MSpaint picture I made. The blue is the wide and the red is the narrow. The other curves are the in between points.

That graph is the amplitude vs frequency graph that you normally see on your EQs.
