I have an over abundance of a bunch of sheet rock (dry wall) and want to know if its possible to make boxes out of it. I'm mainly talking about home audio enclosures right now, but if I can start making mobile audio boxes with the stuff too.. it'd be a good way to use what I have.

So if anyone has any experiance using sheet rock to build enclosures, tell me what happened. I'm thinking if I use a LOT of bracing, or even go crazy and put another complete layer of sheet rock on it, that it should be ok. Just tell me what you know. Thanks.

Oh.. and if anyone can help me make some home audio tower enclosures.. hit me up on that too. Thanks guys!

Sheet rock, dont know about that, if your going to brace it that much you might as well just get some MDF. As for TL boxes, dont quote me on this but i believe Ramos know a little about them.

Sheet rock................NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOO //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif It makes for a cool special effect when your box blows apart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Other than that. I would steer clear. It's to brittle.

What kind of home enclosures you looking to build ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Maybe as a cover for the box, it might look just nifty..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ummmm NO... Use MDF or Fiberglass... Sheetrock would crack, crumble and or just blow apart.. The sheer weight of most of the subs would break a sheet of sheetrock...

Thanks for all the replies guys! I guess I'll just have to buy some MDF. It cant be that expensive. I think I WILL make some boxes just to blow up. :-D That would be sweet... but cleaning up will be a pain. I'll vid it if I can.

Ramos.. I'm just wanting some basic tower enclosures with a sub, and a few other speakers for mids and highs. I just need some design help and some questions answered. Get back with me if you can.

Thanks again everyone

I'll look for ya on aim if I ever get to go home //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
