Can I use Home Theater RCA's in car.........AND some questions regarding setting up X

I have some very good RCA's that I have from my old home theater when I had the 50 inch projection but now I am an Hdmi guy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. I really only maybe need to use the 3 footers as I have 2 new car 12 ft RCAs that I ordered years ago and never opened. I would use possibly one of the home theater rca if the one now going from deck to eq doesn't look so hot. ( Not using the eq with new system by the way ).

I have the Polk db 6501 6 1/2 comp set in front and the kenwood 6x8 three ways that I had already those are in the rear deck now. I will have a crescendo 800.4 amp for those and have a few questions below.

1. Cd player HPF: It appears that only the frequencies higher than the selected rance will be output. It has on the manual page I printed out : 50-63-80-100-125, not sure if there is more of a selection. From what I am reading if I choose to use the HPF both the front and rear will have the same setting????

As for at the amp and what I printed off googling, it has a variable crossover range of 50-500 Hz, Switch crossover range x1-x10 500-5kHz. So enlighten me on what I need to do/use?

About to go to lunch and will post the remaining questions after lunch

few more about the sub, EQ to use or not to use, ect.

As for the subwoofer I will run it at 80. There is an Output level that will increase/decrese from +6 to -24. Is there a need to increase the level or is it just play with it while setting up and see? Also, is increasing the level the same as Bass Boosting? I ask because I remember when i first came on here earlier this year guys say Never boost. In that regard, should the EQ remain flat so there is no supplement or correction is made to the sound as in creating distortion?

And for using the HPF at the cd then just turn off the filters at the amp ?

As for phasing of the Sub, I'm guessing it should be set to normal vs reverse?

I am currently using good quality home stereo hifi RCA cables for my M4a. No noise issues as of yet

As for phasing of the sub:

If it is mounted normally and wired normally, just leave it normal.

If you inverted the sub, either wire the + and - reversed to the amp or switch the phasing to reversed.

Increasing the sub-out level on the HU (head unit) is not the same as bass boosting. Increasing the sub-out increases the voltage of the lower frequencies going to your sub amp. This is actually good as your amp doesn't have to boost it as much. Level match the gain on the amp to the pre-out voltage of your HU. You can have the same HPF for front and rear speakers. I would use the x-overs on the amp as they're variable. Start off with LPF at 80Hz and HPF at 120Hz. Adjust from there as you like. Increase the sub-out level before increasing the bass boost. If you use wisely, bass boost is fine - all depends on what sounds good to you and doesn't damage the equipment.

I have a clipping indicator on the PS8 as well as on the bass knob, never any sign even when I blast it. I have sub out at 0 from -6 to 6 on my pioneer. Like wiggle room in either direction for different songs.

ok gotcha.

Now can the speaker wire be ran on same side as power wire. I have always had the Rca ran on one side, speaker wire and main hot ran on other side

not sure I totally understand what you mean by level matching the gain on amp with pre out level of HU. I mean in other words, is that something I can do witout one of those tools to get it precise? I think I watched a video where a shop guy was using a tool to get something or somethings spot on as he said.

If I use the X over at the amps, should I just have the HPF at the HU off?

^I have sub level all the way up on my Alpine headunit (+15). Even at max volume (35), the signal is clean on a scope.
Do not use bass boost.
is 35 your Max Max , or is that where you have your max set at as far as how high you would turn it up according to having it set for your amps/ears?

Find out what the pre-out voltage is on your HU and set the amp gain to that. Yes, turn off HPF on the HU if using it on the amp.
Ok will double check in the morning or now if I don't fall asleep first lol.

I think it is 4 , or 4.4 or something like that .

Does the amps have an indicator that would allow me to know where that setting is? I have ordered the crescendo 1500. 1/F

And is that a rule of thumb for how high to go on an amp's gain? I thought you pretty much set listening volume then adjust amps up to where it won't clip. Is that way you are talking about a more safe, easier approach?

That's the easy way and that way you won't overdrive the amp. The pre-out voltage rating is a max rating and most of the time, the deck never puts out 4v, so you're fine.
ok but is there an indicator on the amp's gain to let me know when I am at whatever I want to set it at or if not how would I accurately set it?

ok gotcha.

RCA on one side, everything else on the other

Absolute maximum
