Can I fit a 12" sub in a 13-13.5" box?

I know I'm a n00b but I got a stupid question. I wanted to put a pair of JL 12W3 V2 D4's in my Monte, but the spot where I wanted to mount them is only about 13" - 13.5" tall. If I use standard 3/4" MDF would a 12W3 V2 D4 still fit since the mounting diameter is only 11"?

yes...i put a 12" sub in a 12.5" high box before

.75 x2 = 1.5

13.5 - 1.5 = 12
