Can I Do Better Than Polk MM6501's for 200.00?

I was considering the germans but I'm really happy with what I'm using now.
Yeah man the Germans blew my mind when I heard them, same with the HAT stuff... I just don't have the play money to go that route.

Looks like I'm going to go with the Polks, try to do a **** good install on them, and hope for the best //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Polk MM's have very good reviews. So do JBL MS-62C. I have no idea how they compare to each other. I'd buy JBLs just because they're 4ohm as opposed to Polk's 2.7ohm impedance. I haven't had good luck running Class A/B amps at loads below 4ohm in Texas summer heat of the last couple years (this year, the weather is great though so far).

Yeah the JBL MS-62C's seem to get really good reviews on the diy site. I'm torn now between the JBL's, Polks, and 200.00 worth of raw drivers to build my own comp set. Decisions, decisions...

$200 worth of raw drivers, run actively, and installed correctly should stomp all over the JBLs or Polks.

That said, under $200 I recommend the Image Dynamics CTX65cs or JBL MS62c. I liked the Polks too but, I felt like you get more for your money with the IDs and JBLs. Boston Acoustics SC comps were good but are hard to find now since they shut down the car audio part.

I think this is the route I'm going to go...

Dayton Audio RS180-4 7" Reference Woofer

and

Dayton Audio RS28F-4 1-1/8" Silk Dome Tweeter

Great drivers, but you'll be crossing that tweeter very low to meet that mid. Be sure that tweeter likes a crossover point as low as 1.6-1.8khz and that u have space for mounting it.

The RS28F-4 will love 1.8khz and by God I'm gonna make the space for them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And like everything else in life... changed my mind. Front stage is PHD FB 6.1 Kit Pro on a PPI P900.4... unless I can find an AMAZING deal on a used SQ amp that puts out similar power.

Yes, I'm blowing my budget... but I think it will be worth the overtime I'm going to pick up to pay the price difference.
