can any newb apply sound deadener?

i'm about to apply sound deadening to my trunk myself because the local shop is charging me like 200+ for labor..
i heard its really easy to do just VERY time consuming

any detailed tips on how to apply it?
Picture it as a big sticker.

Just get a roller so you can press it down as hard as you can and you are set //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

in reference to the reply on the surface being clean...what's the best way to clean the wheel well?..theres a bunch of this black sticky stuff left over from my old H2 fiberglass install or possibly my old dynamat that was there before it...

I might just start by doing the trunk hood ..that seems faily easy.

for the roller..i know it seems weird, but it might work...
i have a DOUGH ROLLER..^^ would that work fine?
Youll need a small roller, for the curves and stuff.

Ive never once used a heatgun when deadening, but it is the proper way to go.

ummm i wouldnt buy a roller.... i have like 10 and my fav tools and only tools i use when deadening are .... a phillips screwdriver... (for punching through bolt holes and the blunt end to push deadener in small corners and places...) a heat gun(yes use a heat gun they are cheap and worth every penny) a big deep socket(instead of a roller, they work much better) and of course tons of razer blades

pretty much just what jimJ said. make sure you have scissors/a razor. i did my deadening on hot days so i left the sheets on the ground and they got pretty hot. and have a boombox if you dont wanna use your car music. hah

whats the best type of chemicals to use when cleaning out the wheel well?

and is the heat gun to make the dynamat dry faster or.... :X

im definitely gonna try this on my own..thanks for all your input, i'll get pics up as soon as im done.

didn't read my link did you? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif "Most surfaces can just be wiped down with a moist cloth to pick up any dust, or use some denatured alcohol to be sure that nothing is left behind."

The heat gun is just to make sure it sticks properly. If it's warm where you live I doubt you'll need one. Roller is also not necessary, but it may help.

Biggest tip I can give you is to take your time and expect this to take a while, because it will. It's not fun, most of the time you'll spend prepping the area and cutting strips, it's like painting, the actual painting doesn't take the time, it's all the BS before and after. Oh yeah, and use raamat!

hehe no i didnt sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif but thanks for summarizing it all up for me..

i doubt i'd need a heat gun here in san dieg //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
