Can a Better Headunit make a huge improvement in Sound quality?

Pre-out voltage is only really a problem if you have noise problems when the gain of your amplifier is set higher. A higher pre-out voltage will allow you to lower the gain on your amplifier, but if didn't have any noise at the higher gain setting, there will be no difference in sound. If your gains are set properly, higher pre-out voltage should result in the same output level as lower pre-out voltage.

If your deck is only 2 volts for example. Couldn't you run a preamp/equalizer that boosts the preouts signal to 5 volts? That would cure someones problem if they had to turn the amps gains up too much and got engine noise etc......
