Calling all Fathers! (and everyone else too)

OK, first let me start off by giving some background to why this is important for me, and should be important for everyone.

Short version, my 3 year old daughter was moved 500+ miles away, without my consent and there was nothing I could do because in TN (and other states) mothers are granted sole custody of children born out of wedlock. Her mother cheated on me and kicked me to the streets while we were engaged.

I tried everything I could think of in the short time I had to try to stop the move. Called child support offices, court house, attorneys, legal aid offices etc and no one could help me without large amounts of money up front. I was powerless.

This isn't about me and my situation though. Children all over this country and all over the entire world are kept from their "non-custodial" parents, mainly fathers, every day by a system of laws that claim to be in "the best interest of children".

There needs to be change. This isn't about bad mothers or hating women. This is about EQUAL parenting rights and the ability of children to have BOTH parents in their lives. Gender bias has no place in " family law", period.

I know most of you here will make jokes and disregard this... But if you're a parent, you will understand the importance of being in your child's life. I personally don't understand why EVERYONE wouldn't be enraged by the family law system. I know I'm far from the only one that's affected by this locally, as I have seen the bias system work against fathers my whole life.

Anyway, read the petition, please sign if you agree that EQUALITY amongst parents is the only way that makes sense when parents divorce/split up. Thanks

PS- I don't think this will change things tomorrow, but I do hope it draws attention and that this movement can gain steam everywhere. Children are suffering and future generations are suffering because of this.

Im guessing being engaged you were considered the father already.

Anyway being that true, so long as you put child support on yourself then you can request visitation and if both parents cant agree on a schedule then a court will be put in place.

If you want joint custody without her consent then you will need a lawyer and will for sure be paying 3-5k in lawyer fees.

Child support can only grant so much.

I went thru all this since my girl was 16 and her parents did not want anything to do with me.

I had to apply for child support and get a lawyer to get joint custody.

If you two DO NOT have a court order showing the custody rights and you are considered the father then by law you can take your child and no officer can force you to give up your child unless a court order is in place.

Atleast this is how it is in tx.

Signed it, I'm not a father myself but I have had several family members and friends have similar issues due to the messed up laws that control child custody situations. Something needs to be done to fix this.

As I said, in TN, fathers have ZERO rights to the child unless its ordered through court. I've had police show up and make me wake my daughter up and hand her over to her mother just because she was made about something and called the police.

Child support and custody are two seperate entities. Doesn't matter if you're ordered to pay or whatever, that gives you no rights as far as custody goes. You're father enough to pay but not enough to have any physical custody rights.

I paid child support for over a year before my ex and I even split up. The money came out of my check and she received it on a card while we lived together. Because she received state help with baby stuff when she was first born, I was automatically enrolled in to paying support and even she couldn't stop it.

Thank you. There's a movement towards equal parenting. But we need support. It kills me that more people don't get involved.

There was a petition in my small town because they were going to euthenize a dog and it recieved national headlines and was supported by people all over. I'm sure it received well over the 1400 signatures that this has generated.

People don't seem to care that children are suffering because of these unjust laws.

I'm just trying to spread the word in hopes that this issue gets more attention. Here in TN there was a bill a few years ago calling for equal parenting but it was shot down quickly.

Believe me, it happens in TX too. I'm part of fb groups and there are people from every state in the US and all over the world that go through the same things I have and even worse.

It's a global thing, man. Here, you're lucky to get every other weekend. That's if you can afford $5,000 attorneys that don't give a **** about you or your child. I don't call that a "win". 4 days a month is far from right.

OK. I'm ******* DISGUSTED. I just looked up the petition that was started to save a dog from being euthinized here locally. This dog was picked up after getting loose and killing a kids pet duck and allegedly chased the kid. The guy refused to pay the fees to get the dog back and made a big fuss about it. The local shelter was packed and was going to euthinize the dog. 636,000 people signed that petition!!!!

SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY SIX THOUSAND people didn't want a dog that was labeled vicious to be put to sleep. 1,400 people took a few mins to sign a petition for EQUALITY and ensuring a better future for children. WOW.

signed, been there too. Got divorced about 9 years ago. Have 2 children with her. She was/is a loon. Kept my kids from me, brain washed them into me being some monster even though she was an absent mother and I pretty much did 90% of raising them from taking them to shcool, feeding them, changing diapers etc. Now she thinks she is mother of the year. She kept them from me for over a year until I had the coin to lawyer up big time and put her in her place. Now my children see her in a different light. My kids are my best friends now.

A friend of mine had a daughter early in life with a woman who was a complete douchebag. Long story short, he had got a nice settlement from being mangled in a car accident and I'll wager it cost him close to 30 grand in lawyers to get every other weekend.

This is NOT going to change any time soon period. The communists have completely infiltrated our media, government, and academia and socialism demands dependency and no loyalty apart from loyalty to the state. These laws which punish fathers and reward illegitimacy and irresponsibility are designed to destroy the nuclear family and make everyone just a little more dependent on the system. In short, McCarthy was right and if you don't have a lot of money or if the mother isn't a hopeless fvckup your prospects here are pretty grim. Your best option would be to grab the child and try to escape the country or beg borrow or steal enough money to fight a legal battle.

Congratulations! Glad to see a success story. My ex doesn't "keep" me from my daughter, she just knows being 8-9 hours away that I can't afford to make the trip to see my daughter often and she simply doesn't care if I ever see her. She does let me talk to her on the phone a few times a week, if she's being civil. Basically she's keeping me from her without making herself look bad and says its my fault I don't get to see her.

Thanks for signing. I guess most people just don't see the hell that a lot of us (and our children) go through so they cant relate and think this isn't important. I dont know... But I know I'll keep spreading the message and try to think of new ways to get some steam behind this.
