call me stupid, but need help with amp trigger

wiring an aftermarket headunit to a mercedes. It has a factory bose amp under the dash that I would like to keep. from the wiring diagrams I have found online I know which wire is the "amp power" in the factory harness but here is the problem:

the headunit does not have a designated "amp trigger" wire. so can I just tap into the power supply and run it to the amp power wire in the factory harness?

Wanted to make sure before I begin just splicing into random wires for no reason, lol.

What year is the car? Some of the newer model vehicles send turn on/off commands though a data bus and if you put a 12 volt signal on a 5 volt bus, you take the chance of doing a lot of damage to a lot of things.

its a 2000 ml320. The cd changer in the rear is Fiber Optic but the amp is not. Therefore I figured it would be alright to just tap the power supply and trigger the amp, no?

I think it would be. Are you not using an aftermarket adapter for the connection? If not, how did you locate the turn on signal wire to the amp?

Im using a metra adaptor for a volkswagon that was advised on benzworld.com. was also given a wiring diagram pdf from there that explains the purpose of each wire as the factory harness and wires themselves provide no information.

I believe the adaptor your referring to is only necessary for fiber optic models (2003+)

Well then it sounds like you have what you need. But the adapters are nice because you can connect to the factory harness without cutting factory wiring up. But that's up to your preference, so long as you have a schematic and know how to read it you're okay.

You can also use the blue white wire for the amp turn on
