Bypassing amp and finding alternate accessory source?

Hey all. I am installing a new head unit in my 2002 Monte Carlo and I have a few questions.

1. I was told that in order to install my new head unit I need to find a alternate accessory source because the factory radio harness doesn't have one in it naturally. Where could I find this? Is there a fuse I could connect this to in the fuse box?

2. Also...there is a factory amp...and I was told that I need to "bypass" the factory amp. What exactly does this mean and how do I accomplish this? Thanks a lot in advance.

Pm

hey............

lots of choices, if you MUST find an acc source...... some choose their cigarette lighter, some choose something else...

i would wire it hard to a constant source. Then you can turn it on and off manually.....

and yes.... if you want to "bypass" your factory amp (which you should do) do exactly that...

if you have an amp... disregard all your factory speakers and hard wire.

well how exactly do you bypass the factory amp? I know I should, but how? I don't have another amp for them either, just the new head unit. And for the cigarette lighter do I just tap into the power of it?

Isnt acc the same as the IGN wire. that would mean that he deffintaly wouldnt want to use his cig light. use a DMM and locate your ignition wehre ya put the key in. and find the wire that comes outa there that is only hot when the car is on. and for a 2002 monte i just did one actully. might have been an 01 but the harness worked fine it had a IGN wire and it worked. Bought the speacial harness for the chime. Though that shouldnt matter, just buy the harness and it should work like that. On his monte carlo he elected to keep the factory amp and it works good for his application. and sounds pretty **** good for a factory amp.

Well this is a 02 and there is no IGN wire in the stock harness...

ok.... well no matter what acc wire isnt constant 12volt. its switched He told him to plug it into a cig lighter not a good idea. and i told you before tap into the fuse box or tap into the ignition.

Just do what i did and buy the correct harness. No finding switched 12 volt. And for the factory amp when i had stock speakers i left it in and i thought it sounded great and pretty **** loud for stock.

Leave your stock amp in. Post a pic of your aftermaket harness and I will tell you what goes to what. You have an accessory wire coming out of your factory harness. I don't why somebody told you that you didn't. If you want step-by-step help, PM me. I can take the harness out of our cars and wire it up to an aftermarket fairly quick, since I have done mine sooo many times.
