i just got off the phone with the guy from bestbuy and he says im gonna need to bypass my factory amp in order to install my new HU.. he says the monsoon factory stereo that is in my car is really hard to bypass and itd be better if it done at a shop.. obviously im not going to but im not sure how to bypass a factory amp in the first place, so if someone could explain to me how that happens id appreciate that. and also has anyone ever had to bypass a monsoon stereo factory amp that could help me out with this? thanks.

i just re ran all new speaker wire to by pass mine lol not that hard
^^

this

Or if the factory amp is in an easily accessible location you bypass the amp by finding the signal wires (low level speaker wires) and connecting them directly to the outputs of the amp (these speaker wires can be read with a meter or 'popped' with a 9v battery. Finding the wires is the most difficult part but can usually be found with a wiring diagram for your vehicle.

can i talk to somebody with aim on how to re-run new speaker wire please?

post ur aim here if u could help me.. i would greatly appreciate it

What vehicle?
Metra and PAC make bypass modules for most vehicles/systems.

If you use one of them, you will not have to cut the factory harness.
i know but i really dont have the extra $150 right now.. i want to run new speaker wire to my speakers but am new to this and dont know how to go about doing it.. i would like to talk with someone on aim for help

vehicle is a 99 grand prix gtp

Most people have a 2 or 4 channel amp and just wire the speakers from the door to the amp. It's just a matter of buying some decent wire and running it along where it already is. This way is pretty much bypassing the whole system. IMHO this is the best way as all you have to do is put the old speakers and HU back in should you plan to resell the car.
I would honestly take it to a shop if you feel this is something you can't do.
all i gotta do is take off the door panel and run new wire from the speakers to an amp for my components in the trunk. right? and what about my speakers in my trunk? how do i get to the wiring for them

you will have to run the speaker wire for the front doors through the door jamb, if you cannot do it properly...dont do it at all.

you can also run speaker leads from the deck to the factory amp which should be in the rear deck in the trunk, then all you have to do is match up the speaker wire colors for proper polarity.

LF Speaker +/- tan - gray +,- radio harness or amplifier

RF Speaker +/- lt. green - dk. green +,- radio harness or amplifier

LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow +,- radio harness or amplifier

RR Speaker +/- dk. blue - lt. blue +,- radio harness or amplifier

disconnect the factory amp altogether!!!!

find the output side and make the connections.

do you know how to "pop" a speaker with a 9V battery? if not, you may want to let someone else do it.
