BW vs LR on active system

I did a bunch of reading and have come to a conclusion, but I wanted to run it by those much more knowledgeable than I to see if I'm on the right track.

I know the difference between the two and how the sums are either zero or +3dB. What I'm wondering is if there is a consensus on which one works best when setting crossovers for a three way active system. From what I have read, due to the vastly different interiors, driver placement, personal preference, etc, I should just try both and see what I think sounds best. Does this sound about right? If not, should I be doing something else? I'm just waiting on a new set of mids to come in and then I can finally get my three way setup done, so I want to be a step ahead when that time comes.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I realized I didn't quite say what I meant. I also wanted to know about slopes. 12dB, 18dB, 24dB, etc. I know how those affect some aspects, but not all. Should I experiment with those as well, or just stick with the steepest slope, or shallowest, etc, etc.

I've confirmed the LR4 alignment with matching HPF and LPF frequencies between adjacent drivers will sum flat in the car. It's not going to be a perfect marriage or necessarily a broad range of frequencies that sum neatly. The goal is to use the science to get rid of guessing.

I believe the pursuit of perfection in frequency response is absolutely not necessary for 99.99% of audio enthusiasts.
