Buying first system...a little lost, help!

I'm sure you guys see these a lot and I've been reading and looking around but I have to make a decision fairly soon on what equipment I'm going to be putting in my car. Basically I have $1250 in cash to get two sets of speakers, a head unit, amp, one or two subs and installation. A local dealer sells a lot of good brands at wholesale prices if you become a member (they have JL, kicker, memphis, hifonics, and a few other brands). I wanted to go through them but I have to check to see if its cheaper on the internet.

Now I'd like some input from you guys on subs and an amp. As it is right now I want to throw JL TR690s and JL VR650s in as the speakers. As for subs I want to spend less than $180 a piece or about $350 for one pretty good one. I have around 200-300 for an amp. What are your suggestions? Needs to be JL, Kicker, Memphis or hifonics.

IMO im not a JL fan, been in a truck that was nothing but JL and didn't like the sound to much(at least for what you pay), but thats me, i think their full range speakers are kinda mono toned. memphis is a good brand, but exspensive, kinda over rated(similar to JL), amps are nice. kicker is an overall good brand from everything i hear about, amps are powerful, subs can take the power, and the full range speakers have a good low end which a lot of speakers lack. and hifonics, eh not something id buy.

You should take this guy's advice. It's clear that he's extremely knowledgeable.

Just kidding. He said nothing of value. And why does it need to be one of those four brands? Your post isn't specific at all and you're going to get a different answer from everyone, because people like to recommend things they run personally as if though their equipment is exactly what you're looking for. You need to give us more information as well as the goals you're trying to accomplish before we can even begin to throw out recommendations.

I want good sounding loud system, i'm not trying to compete or anything, just want a good set up with the money I have. The reason it has to be those brands is because that's what the dealer carries and they sell them at wholesale prices if you're a member, plus they do free window tinting if you're a member //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I'll get a good price if it's any of those brands, plus from what it seems you can't really go wrong with any of them.

I think Memphis would be the best brand that you listed but it can save you quite a bit to install it yourself. It's really not that difficult..When I first started out I had 4 gauge ran through my car by a local shop and think I spent over 200 dollars for just wires ran..Always funner to do it yourself too..

I agreed with you until you used the word "funner"

*facepalm*

but to the OP, it may seem like a daunting task but if your willing to do some reading (and probably ask some stupid questions) you can learn how to install it yourself and save a ton of money...

Do yourself a favor and educate yourself. Whatever you have questions about use the SEARCH button, and you'll find almost every answer.

Don't just stick with mainstream brand names that have been imprinted into your thoughts and see what others say about other alternative brands.

Make your own decision about what you want to run based on what you know and learn. Only take into consideration other's suggestions.

i think what i said has a lil bit more value than what you have said. i gave him an overview on four brands he asked bout.

If you're deadset on those brands, I say kicker amps, memphis subs and speakers. Unless the JL stuff is a third of retail through your shop. Just my opinion.
