Buying a new RC car, need suggestions

Based on what you said, I would recommend the Stampede for all-purpose bashing. The 1/16 is neat, but its simply too small to take on any real world bashing. Not to mention the additional maintenance of 4wd. The Stampede is a proven bashing platform.

I dont know about boring one out. If you mean my comment, my BB'd truck had an entirely different engine installed.
I must had mis-interpenetrated. Although I understand that big block and bore are two totally different things, one is the block the other is the cylinder chamber. I just assumed that the cylinder was bored out and a bigger piston was put in like they do with dirtbikes. Keep the bottom end and all.

You're fine, no worries.

An engine's displacement potential, much like a speaker, is based on piston diameter and stroke. Boring out a cylinder means making the diameter larger, which under most normal cases is only done to remove wear on the cylinder walls. Too much boring can make the walls too thin and lead to cooling issues and possibly even problems with structural integrity. I dont know if there is even a boring process, or parts, available for these little nitro engines. Buying a new cylinder is like 10 bucks, so I doubt there is any option for boring one. Whole new enegines are usually less than $200. You can get over sized pistons and rings for most common dirtbike engines, because they are vastly larger and more expensive to simply replace, but yes you are generally correct with your comparison.

A big block conversion on an RC vehicle usually just means installing a larger-displacement-than-stock engine, which could have a bigger bore, stroke, or both.

i had a traxxas rustler vxl, used a handful of times and then sold it for 150 bucks, was fun when i had it just didn't have time for it, didn't take too big of a loss as i was working at a hobby shop and got a 40% discount

Ok Batteries are charging ( gonna take forever on this factory 4 hr pos ) So Ill have 4 new batts for the transmitter , and 2 fresh 7.2s.. I have a series Y adapter, but I need to change out the pinion if im gonna run both batts

I have 3 revo's, but mine are all nitro based. One has been converted to a bigblock (forget the size) and that thing is a wheelie machine.
The suspension on the revo is second to none.
The traxxas 2.5 and 2.5r and the other assorted variations are a .18 size block. I would imagine your big block conversion is either a .21 ( size where they are considered a big block ) or .25

The revo's cantilevered suspension is a thing of beauty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You can bore out the nitro ones? Holy crappolie. Makes me want to sell my TC 1000's for the Traxxas I never got.

No room, nitro engines are tiny lol There are how ever mods that can be done to a motor to increase the power band, shift the power band, and increase fuel mileage. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well here are some of mine, all nitro.

PICT0015.jpg

From top to bottom

1. Ofna Ultra MBX Pro w/ single speed, clocked @ 58mhp. W/ 2-speed 76mph. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Weighs just under 11lbs.

2. Old school Losi XXX NT with a Mugen 6 port .12 Absolute blast to drive and tops out at 47mph.

3. Traxxas Nitro Rustler. Perfect for some back yard/park bashing. Clocked @ 61mph with 22 tooth clutch bell and 72 tooth spur gear. Will pull the front tires at any time you want!!

4. Team Associated RC10GT Factory w/ all the goodies. This is my fav. It dose it all, great acceleration and even better handling. A tad faster than the Losi.

5. First gen HPI Nitro MT rs4. This is the basic RTR from them and is all wheel drive. It currently has an OS 15CVR and my go to for back yard bashing.

This is also the truck that I let beginners run as it practically drives it self.

I have to give it to OS on this .15CVR, I have literally 5 gals of fuel through it and it still purrs like a hi revvin kitten.

While all of my nitro's run perfect, they require lots of maintenance that and gas is $$$.

I have a friend at work with the Rustler VXL running the Lio 11v packs and let me tell ya, thats a bad bishc!!

Iam thinking of getting me one as well.

We did a head to head at the local dog track parking lot against my Ofna in 2sp trim. About even from the start with the Ofna having about a 3' lead

at the end of a 200' run.

With the Ofna in single speed trim, I get a BIG lead off the start(about 4-5' in the first 50') and hold that till about the 100' mark and then get taken on the top end.

The more I think about it, Iam thinking I will get me the new VXL rustler. Wheels up fun!
