built a box yesterday

ok. It's pretty shitty set up tho. HU: JVC 201, AMPs: Sony Xplod 700.5 and Sony xplod 760.2, SUB: Kicker CVR 12" 2ohm. SOUND STAGE: Pioneer Type G
Car: 1994 BMW 540i. This thing is ****ing sweet....
Yours looks nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have an 89 325ix, great car AWD.. It's just my bro put about 600$ of body damage on it, and it's about time for new paint. Also a needs a couple grand in front end work just to be up to par..

So it's getting uninsured and parked, and might get some work done, if I have extra money.

But anyway, the box looks fine, I see nothing wrong with it. I would just go with a proper ported box next time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

mdf is more dense so it reflects sound waves better. Right? But i asked around and the only reason they wanted to use mdf was for flexing. Idk, it works, it doesn't look all that shity, and it was FREE!
No. Internal cabinet reflections are exactly what you DON'T want. You want the speaker to push air out from the cone, and off the back into the box. You don't want internal resonance. MDF absorbs the excess sound energy well (not as well as high grade plywood, mind you), and when braced, is one of the most acoustically dead materials available.

For your first box it looks just fine man, I remember my first one was pretty bad but that was many years ago now.
As for plywood yes it will flex more than the mdf and cause unwanted resonation if you have a decent amp and sub to make it flex, but in a sealed box like that you`ll be fine. Also plywood is not as dense and actually soaks up some of the waves.

Next thing to do is tell us what vehicle its in and what equipment you have and maybe we can help you design a box that will give you greater output:D

Anyway props on your first sub box!

Garett
This is not true. Of all traditional enclosure building materials, high ply count plywood is the best it gets. MDF is just more cost effective.

Have you tought about paying some one to design or build you a ported box?
Doesn't look bad for your first box but will sound a lot better in the right box.
**** NO! lol. I would never PAY someone to work on my car. I wouldn't mind if someone helped me. But this isn't a bad box. It's 2.2 cube. I did that math. and that was what i was aiming for. lol

Why BMW why do the front bushings have to go out every 100k? lol yea this car is my baby

Looks good to me?

Well then maybe i choose a better wood to use in this. This plywood is pretty serious stuff.
haha thanks

maybe the wood i choose isn't as bad as i thought...

I love the randomness of the screws....and x2 to what PV just said.
yea, lol, i would have made them even, but realizing that at some of the corners i was running into the other screws, and i was running out of time so i said **** it. this ****'s getting covered in the end anyways...

As far as the wood goes, let's put it like this. If you paid less than 50 dollars for the sheet, you should have gotten MDF.

This **** had be laughing more than the box.

Good first try. You can only get better.

My first car was an 89 525i. Loved that car. Automatic headrests FTW.

Looks alright to me. It won't make an astronomical difference what material it's made of. Should sound fine. Next time, port it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

CVRs love ported boxes.
